Canada / Honourable James John "Hamish" Gow QC, Victoria, BC
« on: Thursday 22 August 24 13:20 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for any family history information on this man who died in Victoria, BC on 23rd February 2009.

In particular a photgraph of the man himself, or of his headstone, would be fantastic.

This is for a WW2 book I am writing. Orginally from Aberdeen, Scotland, Hamish was POW in Germany and went on to become one of the leading figures in post-war Scottish, and then Canadian, legal circles.

See obituary https://www.mccallgardens.com/obituaries/the-honourable-james-john-hamish-gow/

Any help or pointers greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi thanks for responding.

Yes - it appears there is an outstanding request but it didn't come from me.

Not sure if or when it will appear on Findagrave, just hoping there was someone local who could help me a bit quicker.

Thanks again,

AG

Dorset / Photo Request - William Fawdington Dundas, St Eustace Churchyard, Ibberton
« on: Tuesday 20 August 24 14:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I wonder if someone in the locality of the above churchyard would be kind enough to send me a photo of the gravestone of the above person?

I'm writing an biography of him for a forthcoming book.

He is actually from my home town and was a Major in the Black Watch during WW2. Captured at St Valery in 1940 he was held POW in Oflag IX-A/H, in Spangenberg Castle in north eastern Hesse in Germany, and attempted many escapes. After the war he was awarded the DSO and was Mentioned in Dispatches for inspiring other POWs to escape.

Any help will be fully acknowledged in our forthcoming book.

Many thanks!

Went live for me last night at 7:30pm (Scotland).

All assigned matches looking spot on for me so for EXCEPT my closest match, a first cousin on my paternal side.

This was assigned to Both Sides and, as mentioned above, it does not give the option of re-assigning to paternal side. I've fed this back, hopefully it will be sorted out soon.

Thanks a lot.

I see it on the website but not on my app.

Website saying: "Something went wrong. Please try again later."

Now I know where it is though will keep an eye on it.

Thanks again!

The Ancestry App was updated on 3rd Oct to version 14.19

Details of update states:

- New Sideview technology allows Ancestry to determine which side of your DNA your DNA matches come from.

Can anyone see this feature anywhere?
