« on: Wednesday 02 March 11 10:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Ray, thanks for that. I e mailed them yesterday. ( I guess you know how long they take to respond).

I phoned them this morning, to be told by an American Lady to phone again after 3pm UK Time.

I will let you know how it pans out.

Technical Help / Gedcom download problem Ancestry UK
« on: Wednesday 02 March 11 00:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, I am familiar with and often use the Export Gedcom/Download Gedcom facility from, my Ancestry tree, to my desktop, for later transfer to my off line tree.

Today however, I have tried to carry out this procedure with a second family tree, which I have built on Ancestry, specifically to make a merger of two family's direct line Ancestors only. Having completed the tree, I want to Download it to my Desktop, then upload it to a new off line tree.

That is the background information, to save anyone explaining how to download a gedcom.

Today's download did not work, because having selected the 'Export Gedcom'  option, the damn thing got to 99% on the file gathering stage, and would not move past that, to give me the green button, to actually do the download. The spinning circle which Vista uses to indicate a process is still running, continues to spin, the 99% completed, still shows. And nothing I do, either on the Ancestry site, or by trying Escapes, logging off, shutting down, removing server connection, etc. will change that.

When I open again the cursed thing is exactly as it was when I closed it; 99% and still spinning.
Any ideas please?
Regards

Sussex Resources & Offers / SOUTHEASE Near LEWES CENSUS AND MORE
« on: Monday 28 February 11 19:52 GMT (UK)  »
:) Hello, meet one happy Bunny.

If you have Ancestry from Southease near Lewes, or even surrounding villages.
Do yourself a favour and visit their Village Website. Here is a link if that is ok. or just Google Southease.

There you will find comprehensive 1841 to 1911 Census records for the Village, and even some info on people who have left the Village. Also, in April this year, it is planned to put the Baptism, Marriage, and Burial Parish Registers on their web site.

This is a wonderful effort by the Community, and I have had direct and fantastic personal help from Ian Barugh, Clerk to Southease Parish Meeting.

Please do not bombard him personally for individual enquiries, but use this great facility, and if you can contribute to their knowledge of their Village's People History, please do.

As a person, who is too often- 'Quick to chide' and slow to 'Bless' when commenting on services received, particularly from public bodies, I am compelled and delighted to comment on my recent dealings with the ESCC Records and Archives at Lewes. The department is headed, I believe, by Mrs. Elizabeth Hughes, but my dealings have been with Andrew Bennett.
The speedy, positive, considerate and professional response I received from him, coupled with his 'nothing is too much trouble' attitude, is a credit to his department head, colleagues and much maligned Civil Service in general.
But most particularly to Andrew himself.

A 67 year old ' Victor Meldrew' worshipper and emulater, has been left stunned but delighted.

Well done Andrew and a merry Christmas and I hope secure New Year to all at Lewes Office.

Hello, I have been off the site for some time, but I noticed the Jeremiah McCarthy message tonight, for the first time.

I am descended from a Jeremiah McCarthy/McCarty of that era, and living in the East end of London.
His Partner was Bridget Power, and the Issue of the marriage was aDaughter; Bridget McCarthy born 1880 and a Son; Jeremiah born in  1886.

This Family have been driving me mad for four years with a lack of provable records, name changes and non registrations. If you would like to discuss off line, please advise, and I will ask the site operators to pass on my e mail address.
