Pembrokeshire Lookup Requests / Re: Roberts Family Narberth area
« on: Monday 17 October 11 11:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi Miles,
I am interested in William Roberts who was born in Ireland and lived in Pembrokeshire. His father was David according to his second marriage certificate. I would be interested in any info you have on the family in Ireland before they came to Wales.

I took a close look at the 1841 Census sheet under magnification and I'm sure it is a "loopy" I in the place of birth column. I agree with 1851 and 61 locations but the confusion is that 1871 shows pob as Jeffreston

Hello everyone,
Just looked at rootsweb after a long absence from the site. I have a large dB on the Roberts family and recently exchanged data with Rob Day. William Roberts married Mary Day in 1848. It was a 2nd marriage for both of them. Williams' first wife was Anne Jenkons but she died on 9th May 1848 during the birth of her son Joseph.
On the marriage cert, Williams father was shown as David, a farmer. There are several David Roberts in the 1841 census and another that died in Narberth area in 1839. It is not unusual for the father on a marriage cert to be shown as alive when he is dead!! I have a photo of Williams' grave in Molleston Cemetary taken last summer. Also a few more  grave photos of the Roberts family.
My great grandfather was William Roberts, son of Nathan/Nathaniel the brother of Lot. William had 8 children with Anne and 3 with Mary. Anyone wishing to exchange info then please contact me

Oriol,
Thanks for info. I've been planning to look at the NLW wills for a while and your note has encouraged me to do that. When I said property records, I was looking to find any info from parish records/Vestry minutes relating to the collection of church rent/tythes. Also to look at any old maps which would give a trail to possible tenants/reference documents.

Oriel,
Thanks for your reply. The answer is no to both of your comments but I am planning a trip to Haverfordwest soon and Wills and Property ownership are on my list. Dey is an off-shoot of my family tree and I have only gone back to the marriage of James Dey and Rebecca Ollin at Begelly in 1776 so far. I will take a look at your references as I have not looked at the parishes you mentioned.
                      Thanks
                           Roger

Hi Damian,
I've just seen your correspondence on Lot Roberts who is the brother of my gg grandfather Nathaniel Roberts. I have just started picking up the threads again on researching the Roberts family having not done much work on them for a few years. I thought another go may make some more progress and get over a few of the roadblocks.

Lot was 1 of 3 children to William Roberts and Mary Rees nee Dey(or Day) who was Williams 2nd wife. Mary had 2 children by her 1st husband Thomas Rees who she married at Begelly in 1837. The children were Ann and Martha.

William had 8 children by his wife Anne Jenkins who died in 1848 at Raynolton. They married in Jeffreston in 1827.

William was supposed to have come from Ireland but I have been unable to trace him back before his 1st marriage. Thomas Roberts was a witness at his first wedding and there are also a few vague references to his father being David Roberts. I plan to try and find out more info on these 3 men with this latest research.

Lots' brothers (from Mary) were Nathaniel(m. Ann Nicholas in 1870 and had 6 children) and James(m. Emma/Emily Williams in 1875 and had 13 children).

I have quite a lot of info on the Dey ancestors of Mary who farmed at Catershill, Begelly. The earliest is a James Dey who was born ~1750.

I am happy to exchange database with you to try and fill in some more gaps.
                           Regards

Australia / Re: FORFAR family arriving Melbourne 1923
« on: Sunday 12 April 09 17:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi Kastanea,
I'm not sure if you saw my note to Valry in the last few days but my grandfather was James Honney Forfar and was the son of James Alexander Maitland Forfar. My grandfathers' middle name came from his mothers' maiden name, as was the custom in those days. I have traced the Forfars' back to ~1690 and agree with your names going back to 1805.
I have info on the Australian Forfars from Ann Forfar, the granddaughter of George Thomas Forfar. George and May Dorathy Eustatia Palmer had 6 children, 3 of whom were born in U.K., the 4th in Oct 1923, and the others in 1926 and 1933 respectively.
I am happy to share my data if you are interested, but Ann Forfar is the expert through her 1 name study project.
                                  Best Wishes

Hi Valry,
I have been in contact for several years with Ann Forfar who lives in Victoria and is the daughter of Dougland Maitland Forfar. Her grandfather George Thomas Forfar was the brother of my grandfather James Honney Forfar. Are you in contact Ann? She is undertaking a 1 name study project on Forfars worldwide.
She has a wealth of info on the family but I have also given her info on the Forfars left behind in S.Wales. Would be happy to share my info with you or put you in contact with Ann.
