Hi,

Thank you for that, I can see it now, but I still do not understand. Does it mean he served in95th for ten years berfore the date of 6th Dec 1864? Sorry to be so thick but I  would assume that it might have come up with his record.

Thanks again Jakky

Hi,

Possibly!
Just checking the dates and he served 21  years and 13 days. days, he did  1 year Crimea and 8years in East Indies, but he appears to have joined 6th Dec.1864 and left 22 June 1975, there must be a simple explanation for this so what am I missing here?

He has quite a few medals and a couple of days short of his 5th good conduct badge, so he can't have been that bad.

I am confused by the dates though,

Jakky

Armed Forces / 95th Foot. What was he?

My Great Grandfather was on his wedding certificate and two census returns as Soldier 95th. Reg.

My Grandmother was born at The Euston Hotel Fleetwood, at that time a Barracks, again he was living there and a Private in 95th.

On contacting The Sherwood Foresters some time ago, they had no record of him.

Is this normal that he would not have been registered?

He had children in Pembroke Dock and Gosport.

At he time he married 1868,his address was The Encampment Pemboke Dock.  There is no mention of 95th being at the Encampment at Pembrokeat that time. Was he following the Regiment around and pretending to be a soldier?
Has anyone any ideas,

Thanks
Jakky

Thank you all,

This was a widow living in Wales, but originally from Liverpool, so soundsabout right.
I do not know where she was buried yet, can't see it being any other than Wales though.

Thank you all,
this was around 1850ish. in Wigan. It is spelt Patten.  I can now perhaps look up the history of them, just wondered how long they had been in circulation,

Thanks again

 Hi,

I think that  Pattens are a sort of flat shoe, backless, and with a iron ring on the bottom, presumably to keep out of the mud, or have I thought wrong?

Has anyone any idea for what period  of time they were made or,  when they stopped being made.

Thanks,Jakky.
