yes,confusiing.
record on the merchantman says tried in madras..
then there is this court martial in somerset..
maybe the ship madras was set alight?
hence the arson charge?
will keep hunting..

very interesting and i hope i  do get some feed back from the military.
sometimes they are a wealth of information.
i am having trouble finding a death certificate for him..
he had a son that died 1897 in western australia but unfortunately it wouldn't give charles pob.

so thats true ?if they have the ship in full sail tattoeed on their body-that means they have sailed around cape horn? is that right?

i have just found out that charles reilly was court martialled for arson 20/8/1862 wellington somerset uk.
i can access the british newspapers to see if it was published.does anyone have any idea of what paper i should be looking at for that area..i can't find any wellington or somerset newspapers..
also any other ideas on how i could find his record.

i am searching for a country of birth and any other details  for charles reilley or riley.aka reiley or retley.
he was born about 1844.i have his convict details but no country of birth-thinking usa..
came to west aust as a convict(OCUPATION,SAILOR) on the ship merchantman.convict  no 8117.
trial was in  madras 20/8/1862.sentenced to 14 years for arson.
he married emma bonser 1874 in west aust and died about 1888..

Family History Beginners Board / burkes from ireland

my g/g grandmother was margaret burke born tipperary  ireland about 1832.(parents thomas burke/ann hogan)

she travelled from liverpool  to  fremantle west aust on the ship "sabrina" 13/6/1853.listed as aged 21 and a farm servant.
there were 8 other burkes on board as well.

we have never established if they were all from the same family.
thomas 35 ,wife mary 31, mary 5,john 8, patrick 10,richard 12,ellen 14,catherine 19(farm servant)
does anyone know if perhaps catherine and margaret were thomas burkes younger sisters?
