Thanks Annie

I hadn't thought of checking the neighbours. I will try that and see what that throws up.

Hi Annie

Thanks for your reply. This is the family that I am looking for. I do have the information on them on Barra but wanted to go further back. I really wanted to know who took the croft over after Kenneth left for Barra (did it stay in the family?) also if there is a date they took it over? I have not seen these books so don't really know what information to expect from them

Thanks
Lucy

Inverness / MacLennan - Trumaisgearraidh North Uist

Hi
I was wondering if anyone has a copy of Croft Histories of North Uist volume 4: Clachan to Boreray. I am looking for information on the MacLennan family who lived at Trumaisgearraidh (Trumisgarry). My GGGrandfather  Kenneth was living there in 1851. He left sometime after 1871 to move to Barra.
My local library is struggling to find a copy of this book for me. Any information or help gratefully received.
Thanks.

Hi Holly,
I have managed to collect quite a bit of information about Samuel Ernest since I first posted on here. Samuel's parents were John Henry Thornhill b.1877 and Beatrice Alberta Searle b.1879.
Barbara Mary's parents were John Charles Belton b.1874 and Ada Beck b. 1877.

I managed to trace both families back through the census records to the early 1800's.
I do not want to bombard you with information so perhaps if you tell me what you already know, or what information you want to know I can help you.

There is an excellent website www.beeston-notts.co.uk which has a lot of information on it. There are even a few photo's of Janet in the school's photo page (Beeston Fields Junior School -  Class of 1948 and Class 4 - 1949). There is also a comprehensive guide to the 2nd Beeston Sea Scouts which contains photo's of some of Janet's brothers.
I hope this helps.

Craignish Primary School is celebrating it's 150 yr anniversary. Does anyone have any old pictures, or did anyone have any ancestors (or yourself) that attended the school?
There will be a celebration in June for further information please look at the school website here.

Thanks for trying Skewy.

Unfortunatly the father is (Samuel) Ernest. I will keep trying with older relatives to see if anyone can remember. Perhaps since my Uncles certificate has come to light after all these years the others may too  ::)

Hi Skewy,

I am aware of David Hallams site. It was this site that sparked my interest in my family history. I had only gone looking for some information about the town my Dad was born in and found how popular the Thornhill name is (here in Scotland it is quite unusual), and so began our story. We are related to the Thornhill mentioned here but I am afraid as the story continues down through the generations we emerged as the poorer side of the family ;)
I am hoping to make my first visit to Beeston later this year :)

Many thanks for all your help.

Sorry I should of put the names down. My uncle was Charles David Thornhill. There were 2 children younger than him at the time so I would expect to see John Roger and Janet Muriel.

Do you know if the Sponsors names are recorded on the records or just on the Certificates?

Hi Skewy,

It is most kind of you to offer to help me, I wasn't sure where records this recent would be held.
