Many thanks Jim.

The May Burton, mother of Alfred W G Ames, was the first May not May Louisa.

What a complicated family.

According to the marriage certificate seen online, Frederic’s father’s name was Nathaniel, boot maker.

My interest is with the bride’s family so I haven’t done a great deal with Frederic’s.

Gee and Standeven seem to come up as two separate surnames, with Standeven mainly in the north of the country. This leads me to think it was his mother’s maiden name but I haven’t got anywhere with that.

Frederic’s age on marriage was given as 18 and his bride’s as 17..

Good grief, the things you can find out about family members. Luckily not close family,

Thank you for that. What a rogue.

I will have a look tomorrow re Fred’s parents.

I can forgive the mistake with Bertie. It is probably the only time I’ve seen one on the site.

This head of this family started out as Frederic Standeven Gee. Goodness knows what happened to Gee but it’s got me confused.

Many thanks Rosie.

It's definitely Standeven on FreeBMD. I must learn to be more open minded re names.

I'm looking for a birth registration that appears on FreeBMD but doesn't come up when I input the details into the GRO site.

I'm trying to think of a way to bring up the relevant page by tracing someone else.

If anyone can help I'm looking for Clement Bertie Standeven, registered Pancras, 1b 55, March 1896.

Thank you for that SS.

Alfred Ames married May Burton, Edmonton district, December quarter 1912.

He died in 1917 and May then married John Perkins. I had only seen banns for this marriage so hadn't realised May was a widow.

Seeing Alfred W G on the 1939 Register got me wondering if he was her brother and could give me her maiden name, but it turns out he was her son.

Rosie is right about the marriage of Alfred W G in 1940 as I have found his death record at age 86.

Many thanks all.

Now why didn’t I think of that! I’ll blame the heat.

Many thanks to you all for the interest/information.

The gentleman's name is Alfred Ames, born February 1914.

The GRO has him as Alfred William, page 1372, and Alfred William George on page 1293.

The National Register has him as Alfred G, with W added in red ink.
