Sussex Lookup Requests / Re: Birth of William BUTCHER
« on: Saturday 15 March 25 01:19 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you for your reply, but my query is with the mother's name.  Should be CATHERINE YARRANTON, but the Certificates I've been given states the mother is CAROLINE HERRINGTON.

In one of my files it mentions from 1837 to 1869 Patching was in the Petworth district.  If this is the case, perhaps I should be looking in the Petworth district for William's birth.  There is a record in Free BMD for a William BUTCHER in Petworth district, volume 7, p.410.
Can anyone help me with this one?

Thank you for your reply.  I already have a Certified Copy of the 1839 Entry of Birth for Benjamin Butcher (William's brother) which gives "Catherine Butcher late Yarrendon" as the mother.
It is the record of WILLIAM BUTCHER's Birth that has become a problem.
I will go back into GRO and attempt to do as you requested - I don't have a lot of confidence when it comes to computers!
Thank you. Carol

Many thanks to you all for taking the time to help with my query.
It looks as if this is one of those times when I have to accept that the mother's name was not written down correctly on the Birth Entry.  (Although I do wonder where the information comes from when a birth entry is recorded on a Certified Copy).
All the other early info I have on WILLIAM BUTCHER states his mother is "Catherine" - including his Baptism in the Parish of Patching in 1843, page 30, No 237 - "March 26th; William son of Benjamin & Catherine Butcher; abode Patching; profession Groom; William Nourse Curate."
So, thank you again.  It's hard to accept the info on the Certified Copy of the Entry of Birth, when you know it is not correct.  But I will or I'll have myself in a knot unnecessarily.
Carol B.

Sussex Lookup Requests / Birth of William BUTCHER
« on: Thursday 27 February 25 07:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hello to you all.  Greetings from the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, Aust.
Have finally got back in to my Family History.
Looking for the BIRTH DATE of WILLIAM BUTCHER.  On 31 Aug 1834 BENJAMIN BUTCHER marr CATHERINE YARRANTON at St Nicholas Church, Brighton, Sussex.  First child PRISCILLA was bapt 2 Apr 1837 parish Angmering Ssx; second child BENJAMIN bapt 27 Jan 1839 parish Patching Ssx, father a Groom; third child WILLIAM bapt 26 Mar 1843 parish Patching Ssx, father a Groom.
I have twice sent for (and received from GRO) copies of Wlm's Birth Certificate (from info I thought was correct - St Caths 1843, Mar qtr, Worthing dist, folio 7, page 541), only to find that the Certificate was incorrect (giving Wlm's mother as CAROLINE HERRINGTON).
I sent an Enquiry to GRO, only to be told they had performed an extensive search and they've only been able to locate one entry that matched most of the info I provided.  They also contacted the local Register Office where entry was registered, and they confirmed the same HERRINGTON surname of the mother.
I have been given another possibility for WILLIAM's BIRTH - 1842, Dec. qtr, Brighton dist, folio 7, page 260).  Can anyone check this out to see if the mother's name is CATHERINE YARRANTON on this entry.  It would help me to order the correct one this time.
It would be much appreciated.

Kent Lookup Requests / WILLIAM BROWN - Pte, West Kent Militia
« on: Monday 19 September 16 07:34 BST (UK)  »
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
WILLIAM BROWN married DIANA PRIGMORE 3 June 1793 at Elstow, Bedfordshire.  When their first child WILLIAM JOHN BROWN was baptised on 12 July 1795 at Elstow, apparently he stated he was a Pte in West Kent Militia.
Is it possible to find out where in Kent he was born etc.  I thought there may be records of his admission in West Kent Militia that would give who his parents were and when & where he was born.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Totternhoe parish birth - LYDIA BROWN
« on: Tuesday 05 July 16 07:01 BST (UK)  »
Thank you very much to all of you.  Your help is much appreciated.
If, when WILLIAM JOHN BROWN (to WILLIAM/DINAH BROWN) was bapt 12 July 1795 at St Mary & St Helena, Elstow, he stated he was a Private in West Kent Militia - would that mean he came from Kent.  Or, as when he married he stated he was from Bedford St Pauls, is that the line I should take to finding his parents?

Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Totternhoe parish birth - LYDIA BROWN
« on: Monday 13 June 16 07:35 BST (UK)  »
:)Hello and Greetings from Queensland, Australia.
I'm hoping someone may be able to help me.  When Lydia Brown was baptised at Totternhoe on 13 April 1800, her parents' names were given as WILLIAM BROWN & DINAH.
I've spent quite a lot of time trying various websites to no avail, to find what Dinah's surname was, to enable me to trace the family back further.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Re: SUSANNAH TOYNE of Kingerby
« on: Sunday 16 November 14 06:35 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you Miriam, but this is not my Susannah Toyne.  My gr.gr.grandmother SUSANNAH TOYNE married LEONARD TODD on 3 Feb 1842 in Kingerby Parish Church.  Leonard (bapt Lionel Ellis) died 1846 and SUSANNAH TODD died 1 March 1889, buried Langley Mill.

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / SUSANNAH TOYNE of Kingerby
« on: Wednesday 05 November 14 04:38 GMT (UK)  »
 :)Greetings from Australia.
I am having difficulty finding the baptism of SUSANNAH TOYNE c 1811 (parents JOHN TOYNE & SARAH BORRINGHAM).  I was told she was born at Kingerby?  There were 6 children born before SUSANNAH at Middle Rasen & 3 children after her at Kingerby.
I've tried several places at Lincs to the Past to no avail.
It would be much appreciated if someone could locate her for me.
