Hi Peter,

Shortly after my last post, in May last year, I was able to reunite the Bible with a descendant.

Cheers,
Elaine

New Zealand Completed Requests / BEARSLEY Family Bible
« on: Sunday 30 April 17 07:10 BST (UK)  »
Trying to trace living descendants of William BEARLSEY, born 1852 in Warwickshire, died 1927 in Hamilton, in order to return a family bible which has been in the possession of LINZ since 1909.
Anyone out there know of this family?

Hi,

In response to Beg's post of 31 October where a list of all the Edith Ethels was provided - I would be delighted to find out how it is possible to search the NZ BDM indexes online without entering a surname? Could be a very useful trick.

Cheers,
Joy

Hi Sue and Suz,

I've just joined RootsChat and found your interesting communication while having a look around for my family names.

Lucy Ann Lincoln was my g-g-grandfather's sister. As you have found on FreeBMD she married Henry Beverley Burwood Disney in Lowestoft on 21 Nov 1837.
Here is the entry from the marriage register of St Margarets:

Henry Beverley Disney, Age 23; Condition: Master of ? a ship; Occupation: Master of  a ship; Residence: Lowestoft; Father: Henry Beverley Disney, Pilot.
and Lucy Ann Lincoln, Age 21; Condition: spinster; Occupation: Living at Home; Residence: Lowestoft; Father: William, Lincoln, Fisher(?) and Merchant.
Witnesses: Mary Eliza Disney and Samuel Robert Johnson.

Not once is HBB Disney at home on census night! Or on land anywhere as far as I can tell. He must have spent some time at home as there are 12 children born between 1840 and 1857, including your two.

I have not been able to find his death. It is not on the GRO Marine death indexes. The closest I can narrow it down to is between the years 1871 (when Lucy is described as married) and 1879 (the marriage notice of their son Frederick Arthur in the Ipswich Journal of 17 Jun 1879 describes him as son of "the late Captain HB Disney).
I have searched the UK Probate Calendars for this period for a Will but there is none. The 1876 Will of HB Disney is that of his father.

I have a family story that Robert Allen Disney came to NZ c. 1901 and was Harbour Master in Wellington. I can find nothing in the official records to verify this. The only reference I have to his being here is this from the Wellington Evening Post, 7 Feb. 1903, page 5.
Nautical Enquiry: mentions Robert Disney, Chief Officer of the s.s. "Aotea" which went aground off Lizard Island on the Queensland coast, on a voyage from Fifeshire to N.Z., 25 Nov. 1902.
It's possibly not even our Robert Disney.

The Index to the Captains Registers of Lloyd’s of London (Guildhall Library Ms 18567)
(Online at http://www.history.ac.uk/gh/capsD.pdf) has:
DISNEY, Robert b. Lowestoft 1844 C89106 London 1875
vol.18 1875, 1877-79; vol.31 1880, 1882-87; vol.46 1889-91, 1893-95; vol.61 1897, 1899-1900; vol.76 1904

DISNEY, Charles Burwood b. Lowestoft 1854 03849 London 1888
vol.46 1888-90, 1892-95; vol.61 1896, 1899-1900, 1902-03; vol.76 1904-07, 1910

Best wishes,

Elaine
