Snap.
My ancestor, William Henry HOOPER, from Plymouth, was also a Royal Marine.
He married a Annie Susan CASSIDY at Tarbert Church in 1878. He was based on HMS Valiant, which seems to have been used as a Coast Guard vessel on the River Shannon between the years of 1868 and 1883. Other sources say that the Valiant was the Guard ship based at Tarbert, which was an appointed Coast Guard station.

Here is the wikipedia entry for the ship: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Valiant_(1863)

Hi Barbara,
My family have been based in London for a few generations now, but my paternal grandfather was born in Millom. My grandfather was in the navy and travelled around a bit before settling down with a London girl!

Nancy is my G G G Grandmother. My by calculations, that makes us 4th cousins, twice removed.

There are a lot of Woodburns in Millom, most of which are descended from Matthew Woodburn & Ann Braithwaite. I have reached a dead-end with these two. Interestingly, my middle name is still Woodburn, and my youngest daughter is called Nancy (named before I did any of the research!)

I'm pretty sure that our Thomas Towers would have married Anne Myers - though I can't remember why I discounted Elizabeth. I'll have to go back and re-work it, though I could have been wrong in the first place.

My email is rparkATclara.co.uk   Moderator comment Email amended to avoid spammers picking it up.  Bit late sorry!
All the best,
Rob.

Yes,
I too am descended from William and Hannah, through their eldest daughter Betty Jones, who's child out of wedlock at the age of 17, Nancy, married Thomas Woodburn, my paternal GGGGF.

My theory is Hannah's parents were Thomas Towers (b.1750 from the parish of Thwaites) and Ann Myers. Thomas's father was Robert, though I haven't done too much delving into this line, this is as far as I have got.

I'm not sure where William Jone's sprung from. If you have made any more progress than this, then I'd love to know. Also, I am keen to know more about your connection to the Braithwaite clan, as Matthew Woodburn (Thomas Woodburn's father) married an Ann Braithwaite, in 1811 (Millom)

Rob.
