yes, that is the info that I have.  I have his name as George D. Wood - I don't know what the D is - but his first 2 children were named Joseph and Elizabeth, so I don't know if his grandpa could have also been George.  Does anyone have any ideas about "proving" parentage(like George's mother's maiden name)?

Thank you so much, Carolanne!  that fills in some blanks!  Does anyone have any suggestions about how to know exactly who George Wood's parents were.  I can't find an obit for George, who died in Penn., USA in 1885.  When I looked at baptism records several years ago, I could only find George that seemed to belong to Joseph & Elizabeth, with the occupation for Joseph being WIRE DRAWER.

The children I have listed for Amos & Elizabeth Hull Hilton are; Ann 1809, William 1811, Sarah 1813, Hannah 1817, John 1821, Mary 1823, Joseph 1826 and Alice 1830.  So far, I can only find that Hannah came to the US and stayed. Alice married William Ryder, moved to Penn, USA for a while...I think William died and she moved back to Yorkshire.  I haven't found any evidence that the others went to the Us

So, you would more likely think James & Ann Ketlett?..

I'm still not sure of parents...thanks for all the replies!  I have James & Ann Ketlett AND James & Ann Rothwell....I would like to know which James & Ann belong to Amos.  Amos never had a son Amos, that I can find from the census'.  Amos & Elizabeth Hull Hilton had a dau., Hannah who married George Wood from Barnsley, Yorkshire in 1835 at St. George's church.

I'm trying to find who the parents of Amos Hilton were.  Amos was b.4 Jun 1786 in Lancashire, but later settled in Barnsley.  I think he died in 1868, at least one child was married at St. George's, so possibly they have his death cert.  Would this have his parents names?  Also, would there be an obituary at this time?

Thanks so much for your prompt reply.  I understand from your comments that I probably won't find much in Ireland, but did they keep shipping records in 1818?  I'm hoping to go to the research ctr. in Salt Lake City next month and hope to unravel this elusive family!

my ancestors John and Ann McIlrath Carson came to the USA in 1818(according to family hist.)  John was born abt. 1795 and Ann about the same time.  They came with John's brothers, Smith, Andrew and Matthew and their families.  I want to find their ancestors, but not having any luck.  According to a book I found in NC, they came from Ballymena, Ulster, Antrim.  I don't know where they sailed from, or landed.  They were Presbyterian, again according to family sources.  The above John came also with his daughter, Margaret b. abt 1815 and son John b. 1818.  Can anyone please help or advise?
