Just a follow on to this one - The UK National Inventory of War Memorials has this memorial recorded, ref no 10721. The description on there provides additional references to articles etc. incl a story about interruptions to its cleaning in 2005!

The entry also has no details of the 400+ boys named on the memorial, so when the photo's are circulating, please send copies of the names panels to:

UK National Inventory of War Memorials
Imperial War Museum
Lambeth Road
London SE1 6HZ

In the meantime, I've followed the story with great interest. Well done all concerned.

Thanks in advance.  Conductor Mike

The term 'Conductor' is a an appointment in the British and some colonial Armies.  its the most senior non-commissioned officer appointment in the British Army.  This guy was a very senior sort!  You can get more from:  www.rlc-conductor.info.

The 'WS' you refer to is likely to be Workshops. He was likely a senior ordnance technician or even in charge of the stores of Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers workshops

Very best of luck.  Mike

Hope this gets back to Nedroma!  The term 'Conductor' is a an appointment in the British and some colonial Armies.  its the most senior non-commissioned officer appointment in the British Army.  This guy was a very senior sort!  You can get more from:  www.rlc-conductor.info.  Also there is no reason to assume he left the army when he got married. He's more likely to have had a full career. If he was British Army you might track him down at:  http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/army.html or the National Archive at Kew or online

If in the Indian Army you might find something at the British Library Ref: L/MIL: India Office: Military Department Records 1708-1959.  Very best of luck.  Mike

Conductor is the Senior NCO appointment in the British Army and many 'colonial' Armies. You can look up names on the 'Roll of Honour' pages at:  www,rlc-conductor.info.  There's also lots of info about the appointment.

Good hunting. Mike

My goodness me Annie!  What sort of breakfast cereal do you eat!  You know nearly as much as me. This is another case of the finding going on for some time!

I have pictures of the memorial and all write-ups. I've seen the Scout memorial to Boughey at Waddecar Scout Centre and I've been in touch with the Scouting organisations , who have been very helpful. I've also been in touch with a relation of him, but no joy so far!

This may be another challenge for the Gazette if I can get them interested!  Thanks again for your efforts and prompted by you I'll get back in touch with the Hospital.  Thanks again. Mike

England / Boughey VC Memorial

Anyone out there know the whereabouts of a Memorial Plaque dedicating a bed at Victoria Hospital Blackpool in memory of 2Lt Stanley Henry Parry Boughey VC.  It was last seen 3 or 4 years ago in the Mortuary at Victoria Hospital and has disappeared.  The plaque, bed and a some of money was dedicated on behalf of the 'People of Blackpool'.

Both the Hospital board and Blackpool Council have been singularly unhelpful.  Can anyone shed any light at all on this?   Mike

Hi there. You might try the War Memorials Trust at:  warmemorials.org and the UKNIWM.org.uk. But I suspect its long hard logging of names and tracking them down via CWGC.org.

Best of luck, I've just been through it with excellent support from this group.  Mike
