Europe / Italian Translations please
« on: Thursday 21 March 19 10:35 GMT (UK)  »
I'd be grateful if some kind soul can translate some Italian birth registrations for me please.  Sorry, they are quite long and there's 5 of them - hopefully most of it is standard and repeated.

My Great Uncle was in Palestine during the period between the 1st and 2nd World Wars.  He married an Italian lady who used the name Luisa Lucchi on her marriage certificate.  I have subsequently confirmed she was the daughter of Domiziano Lucchi and Amabele Filippi from Pavullo.

I have now identified 5 children and would like to capture the details - I see references to Port Said so this further confirms, together with data already held, that it's the right family.  These images are sourced from Antenati - a superb repository of Italian data.

I have provided 5 separate links to the images of the 5 documents in question.

Grateful for any help.

Many thanks,

Kenny

Family History Beginners Board / William Gibb, Harbour Master, Haifa/Jaffa, death 1944
« on: Wednesday 13 January 16 13:16 GMT (UK)  »
Not sure which Board to post this on so if a Mod feels it should be moved that's OK.

My Great-Great Uncle, William Gibb, has always been a bit of a brick wall.  Born in Tulliallan in 1897 he was a merchant seaman who married an Italian lady, Luisa Lucchi in 1920 in Port Said.  They had three children in Palestine and, until today, I had no trace of where, or when he died.

He became Harbour Master of Haifa during the 1930s and I have found details of his tenure at Haifa at National Archives.  But he disappears during the 1930s - I can find a couple of records of his entering/leaving UK during 1930s but nothing until he's listed as deceased on his daughter's wedding certificate in 1947.

By chance I happened on a copy of the Palestine Gazette (hosted on an Israeli Law Firm's site!) that indicates he died in Jaffa, Palestine in 1944.

Any ideas on where I would go to find a death record/more details?  He was a Civil Servant employed by HMG and had a rank of Captain (not sure which service).

Any help gratefully received as ever.

As an aside it does pay to keep googling the same phrases as I've used the same phrase regularly over the last few years with no luck until today - growing amounts of material being indexed daily.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Cindy and welcome to Rootschat,

Amazing - you post something over 5 years ago and up pops a reply!

I make us 4th cousins, once removed.  I come down through Andrew Main's and Ann Weir's son;
- Andrew (1825-1861) who married Jean McDonald and had;
- Andrew (1845-1910) who married Jean Meikle and had;
- Jane (1872-1957) who married William Haining and had;
- Mary (1905-1994) who married David Gibb and had;
my Father (going strong at 76).

I live in London, England although my parents are still in Scotland - where are you?

Post a couple of times more and we'll be able to exchange personal messages - makes it easier to pass information back and forward.

Regards,

Kenny

Grateful for any information on Sergeant Flt Engineer Joseph Leonard Green, 1605300, 77 Sqdn, RAFVR.

CWGC has him dying on 15 Feb 1944. Can anyone provide more information around his service and death please?

I believe he was killed in a Halifax and was part of Bomber Command - Battle of Berlin?

Thanks in advance

Thanks Iain,

That's allowed me to pull it together.  Apart from Monica (as far as I know!) it means all contributors to this thread are related.  As far as I can work out based on the info here;

Neil10 is my 6th cousin, once removed;
Bodach is my 5th cousin, twice removed and
IainW81 is my 4th cousin, once removed.

Can't tell yet what relation inss03 is.

I'll pm each of you with my Anthony line and would appreciate others doing the same.

Love it when things knit together - power of Rootschat!

Kenny

Thanks Iain,

So can you let me know how you get from 'our' Michael Anthony (married to Margaret Dobbie and Elizabeth Dingwall) to Michael Anthony and Janet Kelly - who was the male Anthony in between and his partner/children?

I can't seem to see all of the picture so far!

Kenny
