Thank you for your swift reply. She was living in St Saviours in 1927 and she had a cousin called Ellen.

I am led to believe that this lady was born in St Saviours, Guernsey on 25th December, 1911 consequently does not feature on the 1911 census. Assuming she exists, I would like to discover other members of her family.

Midlothian / Re: Alastair Macleod

We have discovered upon reading one of the links, kindly sent, that all pupils at the Misses Bells school
wore tapestry samplers bearing their name, the date, alphabet, numericals1-10 and at the foot St Andrews Cottage. Our tapestry has the alphabet , no numerals, the year 1909, the name and at the bottom of the tapestry St Andrews Cottage.  It has in addition above the name, the bible extract 'Jesus wept' etc.  We now think it is a distinct possibility that in 1909 he attended the school but of course we have no idea how old he was at that time. Presumably his family were resident in Edinburgh at the time.

We have acquired a sampler from Edinburgh on which is embroidered the following ' Jesus wept  Behold how he loved him - Alastair Macleod  St Andrews Cottage 1909.  All this was in black thread which seemed, along with the quote, to imply a death. I hope this makes things a bit clearer. I suppose it is possible that the sampler was completed in 1909 by Alastair Macleod whilst a pupil at the Bell's day school? Was there another reason for him to be connected with St Andrew's cottage?

Looking for this gentleman who lived (and possibly died ) in St. Andrew's Cottage in 1909. I believe this address to be 15, Lauder Road. Edinburgh. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to uncover some family history for an American family.  The name is Whittaker and I have got as far back as Charles Whittaker marrying Mary Hayes Fearnall at St Marys church Kidderminster.  His year of birth is given on IGI as1811, but this is info from the 1841 census as far as I can see.  I can find no actual birth record online although we have found a David Charles christened 2/4/1815 in Worcester. I wonder if there is an actual church record of Charles marriage and whether it may contain other useful information about his family.

If you can help in this I would be very grateful.

Somerset Lookup Requests / Re: ann symes

I have just discovered an Ann Brooks on the 1851 census living in High Littleton with a Grace Ashman.  The place of birth for Ann Brooks is given as Paulton.  The age is about right as I have the date of birth for Ann (Symes) as 1789 (not sure where I got that) and her death 1855.  Presumably Grace Ashman is a relative of Mary Ashman who married Thomas Symes.  It's all getting a bit complicated.
