Suffolk / Re: TRICKERS in Eye, Suffolk
« on: Sunday 19 December 10 02:02 GMT (UK)  »
My collected data lists a William Tricker base born 8 May 1785 in Eye mother listed as Mira Tricker (maybe Miram shorten as have reference to this name elsewhere) I have no birth/baptism for Mira in Eye before this date but record Tricker here as early as 1705.

I record the following details with the birth record but not necessary found with it just that it seems to relate to this William - illegite. Poss Harrison was father but they were not married at the time if they ever did Creator(s): Church of England, Wortham Parish, Suffolk Information and complaint of Richard Minter of Wortham, bleacher, against William Tricker of Eye, collar-maker, for not keeping to his agreement with Richard Marjerom his apprentice ref. FB131/G1/21 - date: 24th Mar 1817

I have the baptism as 8Sep1875 mother as Mira
(I listed both birth/baptism as have no reference to Harrison on baptism not sure how accurate IGI is, it may be speculation).

He married Sarah TAYLOR 14Oct1809 in Eye both were single a Robert TAYLOR was listed as bondsman and was a witness to the marriage.

1830 Pigots directory list under Saddlers one William TRICKER, Castle St, Eye

I record their house address in 1841 as Sowgate St, Eye and agree with the assessment of Robert being a grandchild probably son of Sarah but there was on other daughter surviving Elizabeth who does not appear in the 1841 census. I have no reference to Robert after 1841.

I list Sarah as being buried 25Sep1847 aged 65 (1782) and William 14Oct1847 aged 62 (1785)

I record 9 children (5F & 4M) 3 girls died before age 15, Sarah mentioned in the census I have being buried 18Nov842, Elizabeth I connect to a marriage to a John LARKMAN 25Aug1843 in Ely, Cambridgeshire. Of the males a Robert died as an infant, Samuel I do not find anything on after 1841 and a James marries a Louisa WATLING in 1862 and lives and dies in Swaffham, Norfolk in 1893 Louisa in 1913.

William was bap 21 Jun 1812, married Elizabeth JESSUP 20Jan1848 in Eye. I add the following notes - William single, full age a Harnessmaker, married after banns read 2, 9 & 16 Jan 1847, father: William a harnessmaker. 1879 Kelly's Directory list William, saddler & harness maker, Lowgate Street
Elizabeth single full age, father: Charles a coachmaker The marriage record shows her name as Betsey, finding the Chr record for Elizabeth dau of Charles and Maria Jessup 5 June 1825 supports name change.
William buried 2 Feb1876 aged 65 and Elizabeth 11 Jan 1879 aged 53 in Eye.

William and Elizabeth first born was named William Jessup TRICKER 1848-1888 as suggested. I am guessing you know the rest it would be good to catch up one day and compare notes.

In preparing this I have just connected that my great grandfather married a TAYLOR who was born in Great Oakley but her grand father came from Eye, I will have to check for any connection to Sarah TAYLOR it would be same time period

Regards

Geoff

Hi keebleancestors
You mentioned Mary Ann marrying William Bone
My current data is based on FreeBMD info and that does not reflect a last name of Bone
It actually shows William Bone BAKER amougst three other male options they are
John Durrant, John Felgate or Charles Woods with other females being ANDREWS Elizabeth, JACKSON Mary Ann, JENINGS Sarah
I had not allotted a husband because of the two Mary Ann options and having not looked too closely at the data yet.
As she is your ancestor do have details of the marriage, marriage certificate ie proof that spouse is William Bone / Baker? or is it family knowledge. The name may be why I have never resolved anything with her.

As a second question
Is Keeble a name you are interested in as I recall it coming up in my database every now and then.

Thats a negitive, like the Thomas family of Clopton, going back this family runs into a deadend with no clear indications of where it comes from. If it was going to connect it would be back in the mid to late 1600 at the earliest

Maybe Loupy lets see

With a little reservation I suggest that Thomas was baptised 29 Jan 1801 in Stowmarket the son of William and Ann (CODD) TRICKER. I indicate he has a twin brother Philip.

I use the term suggest as at present I am revisiting all my paper data (about a ream) and adding all the little titbits of information that was gathered and used to connect people in my mind but I did not include in the original data. I have on several occasions been confused by my own data and had to go back to the paper base to check what was happening, which is annoying and time comsuming as it has no real sequence.

I have the marriage to Maria LANGHAM as 12 Jul 1826 in Stowmarket. Thomas was buried 4 Jul 1840 in Stowmarket aged 39 hence born about 1801.

Maria in the 1841 census has the children baptised to them living with her except Mary Ann who at age 15 (bn 1826) is a servant to Benjamin Howes and those that had died as infants.

Maria remarries 27 Mar 1852 to a Lionel GIRLING in Stowmarket, one of the witness at this marriage is William CODD but I am unsure if he has any relationship but it might suggests a link to what I think is Thomas family.

On this marriage certificate Maria names her father as William CHAMBERLAIN. This comes about because her mother Mary LANGHAM married William Chamberlain 5 Nov 1807 although banns were read 20, 27 Oct & 3 Nov 1805. There is no reason shown for the time lag between banns and marriage,  maybe they planned to marry and other events postponed it. Whether William was the actual father of Maria is unknown he is not named on the baptism of
Maria which was 25 Aug 1805 and she is shown as spuria (illegitimate)

ddutoit1942 thanks for sharing all of that, it is a interesting reading on top of parish records.

I am first generation Australian with my lineage back to Stowmarket/Combs via several different parishes over the last 6 generations.

I understand there are two distinct lines in NZ one traced back to Stowupland and possibly connecting to my own way back and that of your wife which I had not got around to tracing the connection. Guess it is the Jeremiah - Thomas line we are discussing.

I personally have a belief that it would connect back to Stowmarket/Combs somehow if we are ever able to work out who Thomas is. I now know that the most of the Trickers in Alderburgh, Sudbourne originated from Stowmarket beginning around 1800

Thanks again for the data

Sorry about that, yes in the case of Esther I had meant the mother (Copping) guess its a habit that you don't think about when writing.
I tend to include death/burial alongside the birth/baptism record of the person when detailing family and move off to a clear line to refer back to parents sorry for the confusion. I actually didn't consider the daughter because of the James marriage in 1806 as a widower.

Looking at my data I don't have any knowledge of the daughter I do have a couple of options but have not connected anything yet.

ddutoit1942 are you aware of Eve Blowers age when she left the HOI. Getting married was probably why she left HOI as well as being married in Nacton. I don't suppose your cousins noticed any Tricker's leaving the HOI after this date, although I expect James may have been living in Tuddenham before the marriage being the place Esther was buried and where he might have married for the third time in 1813 if that is the case.

I wholeheartly agree with your comment in regard ages but it no doubt was a problem at all levels particularly when they lived so long and moved about, no one probably new his exact age including himself. I have a relation who aged 8 years every census and as you know they were conducted every 10 years.

I think we also need to consider that not all babies were baptised immediately following birth although in general include comments like "a child", "infant" or the age. Based on that I actually have additional Thomas Tricker's that could be a candidate and I could be missing some records also. I offer the following as candidates also

Prior to the stated Thomas baptised in 1737 the previous baptism of a Thomas I record as being in 1728 so have no candidates before your suggestion. Going forward I believe there are 4 candidates -
Thomas bap 10 Jun 1739 Stowmarket, parent Philip and Jane (Harvey)
another 21 Jul 1741 in Stowmarket, base born, mother Grace
another in Combs 10 Jul 1743 base born mother Mary and
who I consider to be the last option one in Eye 22 May 1743 parents Jepthah and Anne (Howes)
The next baptism of a Thomas occurs in 1756 in stowmarket and do not consider him to be an option

I have at present only consider that  of marriage and death of the 1739 Thomas but this is by no means set in concrete

Going forward a marriages certainly might fit into one of them, Thomas in Hitcham 11 Oct 1762 to Judith Powle, Thomas is said to be from Orford, banns were read there and in Hitcham, they baptise children in Stowmarket. The other is Thomas and Elizabeth Holden in 1767, a third in Redlingfield in 1785 might be the Thomas bap in Eye nothing else

A Thomas is buried in Orford 27 Feb 1813 aged 74 and currently link him to the one who married Judith Powle. We then have Thomas buried in Nacton and another buried 28 May 1819 in Cockfield aged 74 (1745). Interesting how all are the same age at death from around the same period, must have been something in the water at the time. That is about all I know of the possibles.

Also ddutoit1942 is it possible to know which ancestry line your cousin and wife come from.
