Durham / Re: Westgarth - (all) - Durham

I have several Westgarth's in my records, including John (1778) who married Ann.  Ann was Ann Place, born abt 1769 Stanhope.  My main interest is in the Place family but I'm happy to share anything that might be useful to you.  The Westgarths were a fairly proliic family and because I'm rebuilding my database because of a computer meltdown I don't think I've caught up with all of them yet.

Cumberland / Re: Armstrongs of Breckney Bed

That does help, thanks.  Most of the Armstrong males I've found were stonemasons/farmers.  Quite a few of them 'migrated'to the Haltwhistle area as well.  I visited the area some years ago, as my father was born in Haltwhistle, but at that stage wasn't aware of the Armstrong connection.  Maybe I'll get another opportunity at some stage.

Thanks for the information.  At least I was in the right area and can now relate to some of the other place names which crop up.

Cumberland / Armstrongs of Breckney Bed

I have a number of Armstrongs born/and or lived in Breckney Bed from 1811 to about 1871.  Possibly there are more after that but I haven't progressed any further.  I think Breckney Bed was near Waterhead or Lanercost but am not sure. I'm in Australia and I'm afraid my geography is a bit shaky. I'm wondering if it was a farm.  Has anybody heard of it??  I know the Armstrongs are pretty thick on the ground in Cumberland, and annoyingly they only seem to have about six first names between them!

Northumberland / Re: ship lost at sea

My 2G Grandfather, Robert Wilson, was Master of the Cordelia. According to family records, they were bound for Valparaiso, Chile, which doesn't agree with other messages here which are probably more accurate. They were 'spoken'by a passing ship while rounding Cape Horn, but were never heard of again. There is a gravestone in Preston Cemetery apparently.   This was a double tragedy for the Wilson family. William Wilson was killed in the Hartley mine disaster in 1862, aged 12.  I realise this is probably old hat by now, but have not been on this site for a long time.  If anyone is looking for this Wilson family, would be pleased to help if I can.

Does anyone know where this area is/was?  Inner Glasgow I think, but am not sure.
