Does anyone know whether it was usual for cousins to marry in 1830's? Think i have direct cousins married but don't know if it would have happened.

I have a convict John Redgen who i know was transported to Australia in 1833. His wife also appears there but i'm trying to find out how/when she got there. Any suggestions?
