Glamorganshire / Re: Caerphilly newspapers 1857

Thanks for the suggestions.  I have already checked barged library but they have nothing that far back.  I did not know about the welsh newspaper archive so this is really helpful.  The relative was Evan Evans who died  on 10th May 1857 near Nantycalch Eglwysilan.  His death certificate says he died falling out of a dog cart. At the time he was the innkeeper of the Boars head in Caerphilly.  It's not very likely but I thought this may have been reported in a local paper.

Should have asked as well does anyone know if Nantycalch is a village.  The only reference I can find is a Nantycalch farm.

Thanks

Jane

Hi

Does anyone know of any newspapers which would have reported a death in Caerphilly in 1857 and if any archived copies are held anywhere?

Thanks

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Re: Joseph ALFRED, Photographer, Cardiff, 1910
« on: Tuesday 25 March 14 18:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I recently purchased a photograph for my collection of items relating to the town of Barry and Barry Island. The photo has an impressed mark on the bottom that reads J Alfred Broad street Barry. When I tried to find out more about the photographer I couldn't find anyone in Barry but I did find your relative via victorianphotographers.co.uk and this post. Do you know of he ever had any premises or connections with Barry? Any information you have would be well received.

Thanks Carys Jenkins

Hello,

I would be very interested in knowing how you are related to Evan Evans born (1794) of Caerphilly. His son Evan was the father of Thomas William born (1857) who was my great, great grandfather on my grandmothers side.

Thanks Carys

Hi Mike

Do you know where John died? If he died in Glamorgan here is a list of cemeteries and phone numbers to ring up for information: http://www.glamarchives.gov.uk/ObjView.asp?Object_ID=21 . I have a had a look at the list and there is a cemetary in Abercynon. However they may charge for searches.

Glamorganshire Completed Lookups / Looking for the Aistrope family
« on: Saturday 04 May 13 19:45 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out if some relatives on my family tree are still alive. My grandfather was called Melvyn Jenkins and he lived in Barry South Wales. His father was called Edward Jenkins and he also lived in Barry. He had been married twice and with his second wife Mary had my grandfather. With his first wife Agnes he had 4 children Trevor, Reginald, Elizabeth and Glyn. Elizabeth Jenkins married a Jim Aistrope and had 4 children Barrie, June, Elizabeth and Margaret. They were all born in the Bridgend area and I would be very interested in making contact with them or their children to see if they have any family information.

Thanks Carys

Hello mlrsuperstar

I think that we may have a family tree connection. My great grandfather was a man called Evan Evans born abt 1896 from Barry and his father was a man called Thomas William Evans. Thomas was born in Caerphilly in 1857 to an Evan Evans blacksmith who I believe is the brother of your Thomas Evans as the the birth date I have for Thomas is also 1818. This was from taken the 1841 cencus where Evan Evans born 1794 was living in Caerphilly with his wife Rachel born 1805 and their family. Their children were: Thomas (23), Evan (my relative 17) Rachel (12) William (9) Margaret (eight) Edward (5) and Jane (2) also Rebecca born after in 1843. The Evans family were from Caerphilly and are buried at st martins church. I can tell you that Evan's first wife was also called Rachel and she died August 2nd 1828 aged 34 years. I don't know when he married his first wife but I do have a copy of the memorial incription listing when she died from st martins church if you are interested. It gives you the names of Evan Evans parents and some relatives and children that died. I may also have a photo of the headstone but I am unsure of this. I would be very interested to know how you are related to Evan Evans and his family

« on: Thursday 02 May 13 20:26 BST (UK)  »
We are trying to find out if a relative on our Family Tree is still alive.  We have never met but would be interested in getting in contact to see if he had any family information.   His name is Stanley R Jenkins born in * possibly in * but freebmd says just *.  The family is certainly very connected to Barry. His mother was Dorothy Gillingham and his father was Reginald Jenkins who was born in 1910.

Thanks

Jane
