I think a few of the things written on the page where the children are listed, have been added later by a different person. As the T in John Thomas is different to that of Thomas.

On another page in their records there is a notation beside son Thomas 'under age - Claim withdrawn'.

It something like - + wife of .... & Co. claim further child???

Thanks for all the help so far. These are the four pages of their immigration records.

This was a line on NSW immigration records for a Thomas and Sarah Frazer, who arrived aboard 'Briton' in 1844.
It is on the third page of their personal records, where the children are listed.
I can understand a couple of the words but not all. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou in advance.

Australia / Convict: George Hewson
« on: Thursday 29 May 14 02:30 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find information on George Hewson's life in Australia and I am hoping that someone can help.
He was born about 1785, and was convicted in 1820 for stealing two sacks of feathers from a man in Deeping st. James, Lincolnshire where he was from. He was sentenced to 7 years transportation and arrived in Australia in 1821 aboard 'Hindostan'. From convict records I know he was in Liverpool in about 1825, and in Wallis Plains in the 1828 NSW Census employed as a labourer. But after this I have been unable to find anything.
I am trying to confirm that this George Hewson is the same person who married Ann Bromhead in Tallington, Lincolnshire in 1813, and had four children in Deeping St. James. The oldest being Sarah Hewson who married Thomas Frazier, and immigrated to Australia in 1844.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nic

How do you know he was older than mid 60s when he died?

Jennaya

According to his immigration records and all of his children's birth certificates he was born in about 1841.
I've narrowed down the range for when he died, 1905-1910. So he would have been about 65-70 when he died.

And he definately isn't in the cemetery (or that plot) with her? I was thinking of finding out through the cemetery, who has ownership of the grave. But in hindsight, I don't think that will help you out as it would seem John might have gone first, and one of her children might have organised her plot.

As for Water Police Records - I would hazard a guess that they might be out at State Records. Give them a call and they should be able to tell you.

Have you looked for him in asylum records as well?

Katharine.

Bridget and John's son William is buried in the same plot as Bridget, he died in 1914. As far as I could tell John wasn't in the Waverley Cemetery Register.

I think he would have only been in his mid 60's in 1906. So no I don't think this is him. Thanks anyway.

Have you got the burial place of John Godfrey's wife? And was he and the wife of the same religion?
Katharine.
Bridget was buried in the Roman Catholic section at Waverley Cemetery. The only indication I have that John was also RC is from his immigration records.
