Durham Lookup Requests / Re: Robson help!
« on: Thursday 17 March 22 02:46 GMT (UK)  »
Annette7.
I'm totally confused so I know my grandmother and great grand mother's details but from their back obviously I have bad info and I've fallen into the trap of accepting one of my relatives information and not checked it.  I consider myself suitably chastised by you and thank you for it!
What I'll do is in a month or so when the weather starts to approach winter here in NZ and I stay inside more, I'll get a subscription to Ancestry again and do better!
You could possibly help me with one thing (if you can tolerate my incompetence), can you confirm that ROGER MOFFAT (or other spelling) and CATHERINE FOBSTER were CATHERINE MOFFAT's (18/2/1844 - 14/12/1923) parents.  From that info I'll try and work back to establish the whole family and check as I go.  Gosh! I blether one - sorry!
Kind regards,
Gordon

Annette,
Wow! I think I have this family of my 2nd Great Aunt all stuffed up!
I need to restart with Isabella Moffitt (various spellings) (1846 - 1933), daughter of Roger Moffat (various spellings) (1802 - 1885) & Catherine Fobster (various spellings) (1810 - 1889), as I have seven children to this marriage and no Archibald Moffat!
Good thing winter is coming here and I can then spend more time looking.

Catherine Moffat (various spellings) (1844 - 1923) was my G Grandmother.  She married James Crookshanks (various spellings) (1836 - 1905).  Her parents were Roger Moffat (above) and Catherine Fobster (above).  From here back the 'Moffat' waters, for me, get muddy!  My records (not confirmed) show that they had seven children, Ann, Elizabeth, Jane, Roger, Catherine, Isabella & Jemima. All born Durham.

Where I'm heading with this is to try and follow the Moffat (various spellings) line back.  To be honest I think I'll have to subscribe to Ancestry in a month or so as I really don't know where I'm going.  If, by any means you can confirm that Roger and Catherine had seven children that would be a help.

Hi from Taupo, New Zealand.
I have two Leasks' in my tree records but not directly related.  James Leask (1882 - 1960), and James Leask (1856 - ?).  Can you give me more info?

Durham Lookup Requests / Robson help!

William Robson married my GGAunt Isabella Mofffit (various spellings) (Apr-Jun 1867- Auckland, Durham 10a 257).  I'm aware only that they had two children (Margaret Ann - 1870, Winlaton, Durham) and John Henry - 1874 , Winlanton, Durham).
I have John Henry's line (he married Elizabeth Margaret Thompson in 1899 (Middlesbro, Yorkshire)) but cannot trace anything for Margaret Ann.  Maybe I'm just 'thick'!
Can anyone give me an ancestral lead on William (1841 - 1921) and his daughter Elizabeth Margaret?

Yorkshire (North Riding) Lookup Requests / Hetherington/Pickering

Small geography question.  Burton in Lonsdale was a small village in 1750's?  Where was Thornton in Lonsdale?  Was it a village/town or just an area? Was Burton in Lonsdale part of Thornton in Lonsdale or vice versa? Anyone know of Hetherington or Pickering families in the area at that time?  Particularly looking for Mary Pickering who married Richard Hetherington.

BRICK WALL! BRICK WALL!  Col. Richard Hetherington (1737 - 1821) married Mary Pickering. Had six children etc.  Lots of information on Hetherington's but who was this Mary Pickering?  Someone, way back, has connected Mary as a Quaker daughter of Isaac Pickering and Sarah Lupton from Pennsylvania but where's the proof.  I can't find any.  I think she was am English born lass from about Yorkshire but can't find anything.  Help please!  my email:  (*)

Durham / Re: RICHARDSON family from Gateshead

Heather, I'm trying to find descendants from Matthew Richardson (1864-?, and Caroline Louisa Marshall (1873 - ?), married 12 Jul 1890 in South Shields, Durham.  I have 13 of their children, born from 1891 to 1911, but little else.  1911 Census shows they had 15 children, 8 living, 7 dead at Census night.  Any connections in your lines?

It's a while since I called Rootschat so have just seen your entries, etc.  I'm looking for Thomas Richardson, born Walker, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland c1895.  1911 Census shows him 16 years, living with his family in Gateshead, Durham as a driver, coal miner.  His parents were Matthew Richardson (b.1864, Sacriston, Durham) & Caroline Louisa Marshall (b.1873, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire). Any connections?
