Glamorganshire / CADOXTON JUSTA NEATH, GLAMORGAN
« on: Thursday 01 September 11 13:46 BST (UK)  »
I have an ancestor Matthew Ralph whom I believe was born in Cadoxton on 8 April 1815 together with some of his siblings, Mary b. 1813, Edward Martin b. 1817 and John b. 1819.  Their parents were Martin Ralph and Martha Curnow.

Can anyone tell me how I might go about finding birth/baptismal records for these births, particularly Matthew.  Any help would be most appreciated.

Many thanks

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / RALPH, MATTHEW - BIRTH/BAPTISM CONFIRMATION
« on: Thursday 01 September 11 13:37 BST (UK)  »
I am seeking evidence for the birth of an ancestor, Matthew Ralph apparently born/baptized 8 April, 1815 in Cadoxton Justa Neath, Glamorgan.  His parents were Martin Ralph and Martha Curnow.  Some of his siblings were also born in Cadoxton - namely, Mary b. 13/7/1813, Edward Martin b. 23/3/1817 and John b. 29/8/1819.

Is it at all possible for anyone to do a lookup for me please or alternatively give me some guidance as to how I might find evidence for this information?

Many thanks.

My father was born in the Ballymacarett area in 1917 and so too were all his siblings.  St Patrick's was the family church, and as a child I spent most of my summers there.  I always understood that this part of Belfast, i.e. the Newtownards Road was in County Down.

« on: Sunday 28 February 10 17:25 GMT (UK)  »
I would be really grateful to avail myself of your offer.

My father, James Edward Titterington was a member of the Orange Lodge of St Martin's East Belfast.  His brother, William John was also a member, and I believe that he may have been a secretary at one time.  We understand, that their father, James Edward Titterington b 1890 was instrumental in the setting up of St Martin's.  I would be particularly interested to know if this is true.

As a child I remember many marches passing the top of my grandmother's street - Wolff Street along the Newtonards Road in East Belfast.  My father used to return to Belfast each year to walk on the 12th.  He was given an Orangeman's funeral in July, 1977.

I have attached a photo which shows my uncle taking the lodge back to his home in Wolff Street - for tea I believe.  I understand that St Martin's unfortunately, has ceased to exist.  The second photo is of my father walking.

I would be grateful to receive any information that you might be able to provide.  Very many thanks.

Bob - I am very interested in the fact that you say that you have a copy of the entries from the record office.  I would be extremely interested to see this information, if you are willing to share it with me.  I am descended from Edward Titterington and his wife, Margaret Trimble.  His parents were John and Mary Wolfendon.  The births of some of Edward's children were recorded in Moira Church along with those of the children of George and Margaret, Richard and margaret and John and Rebecka.  Due to the close proximity of the townlands, and the fair uniqueness of the name of Titterington/Titterton it would seem likely that the above are all possibly related.  I would be very interested to see if your records are able to take me any further in my quest.

Sorry - I seem to have made a mess of responding to the quote above.

I am a first time user of this site and must hope you get this message. My grandmother was namely, Esther Jane Titterington daughter of Alexander Titterington and Mary Anne McAleenan resident in Ballyknock, Parish of Moira on the date of marriage viz; 6 May, 1862 at Moira Parish Church by Rev W.H. Wynne by licence according to the rites and ceremonies of the Unied Church of England and Ireland. Alexander and Mary Anne came to Glasgow where my grandmother Esther Jane Titterington was born on 5 September, 1869 at Glasgow where she died on 4 July, 1942. Back in 1983, I contacted the Titterington's of Moira - there were only three listed in the phone book them. I wrote to all three who got together and nominated one of their number to reply namely, Mrs Kay Simpson nee Titterington. Kay did a wonderful job in visiting the Record Office and recording by hand every entry for the Titterington's which remains in my possession. I am willing to share this with you - so please direct any questions and I will endeavour to answer. Although Mrs Simpson nee Titterington and I could not establish a family relationship there were family likenesses in photographs - but in spirit we felt a stong sense of kinship. I will always be indebted to her for all her valuable work on my behalf and remember with considerable fondness our meeting in Moira about 12 years ago. Interestingly enough an entry in my Family History Record jumped off the page a few minutes ago. It read: Jane Titterington married Alexander Harvey on 15th June, 1866 at Moira. I hasve often wondered given the name Jane as a middle ename to my grandmother if the said Jane who married

I hasve often wondered given the name Jane as a middle name to my grandmother if the said Jane who married Alexander Harvey was a sister to my grandfather Alexander Titterington who married Mary Anne McAleenan whose father incidentally was Henry McAleenan (Labourer). I look forward with some eagerness to hearing from you. Yours etc. Bob Currie

Bob, I have read with interest your above account and in particular, that you have information from Mrs Kaye Simpson that you are willing to share.  My great great grandfather was Edward Titterington.  He married Margaret Trimble and they raised their family in Moira.  Edward was a sexton of St John's church in his later years.  His marriage certificate claims that his father was called John whom we believe was married to Mary Wolfington/Wolfendon.  He had two younger sisters, Mary and Emily, but I wonder if he had any brothers too?  He named his sons William John b 1859, James b 1862 and Edward b 1865 His daughters were named Margaret, Emily, Emily and Eliza Jane. (Janet was a highly respected name in our family?)    Does the material that you have from Kay Simpson include any of the names mentioned in my family?  It seems that there were a number of Titteringtons within a relatively small area and it would seem logical that they are somehow related .... just a case of finding the right link.  Any help would be much appreciated.
