Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: I am so upset .....
« on: Sunday 23 March 25 17:58 GMT (UK)  »
How annoying, no wonder you are upset.  The person with 60,000 on their tree is clearly one of those who does no research but goes around hoovering up other people's work at will.  Likely they also guess at anything which nearly fits their purpose, not bothering with little things like baptisms, marriages and child deaths which mean that someone cannot have their own children.
Basically you need to zip it up to Private and if anyone asks to see it say no but give them some specific detail if you wish to do so.
False information is all over the trees.  I once deliberately told someone a wrong death year of an aunt - 2000 instead of 2012 to test their integrity and that has been copied to many trees since.

Thank you for your responses.  Dankent - I wonder if you could please tell me the name and birth year or baptism of your 5 x gt , the brother of Ann, then I could likely get the right parents.  If Michael and Ann (Platts) are the right parents I already have Ann's siblings as William 1751, Mary 1754, Sarah 1759, Elizabeth 1762, John and Hannah (twins) 1766.

Meanwhile I've been looking at the DNA Thru Lines. It has come up with my Bond line from Ann as I expected, but off to the side it gives me Samuel NOTON born 1811, a child of Ann, as a "half 4th great granduncle".  I have several DNA connections to him but none of the trees have any references that could help, just copied from one another but my Ann must be his mother. I've been looking around the PRs and found the two marriages of Ann BRIGHTMORE in the same year 1777, same place, same vicar.  So I'm sure there must be two of them probably cousins.  I wonder if maybe Ann Noton couldn't conceive so Ann Bond had a baby for her. The baby continued with the surname NOTON and named Richard Noton as his father when he married.
However it still doesn't prove her parentage, so hopefully more info from Dankent can help with that.

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Re: 1807 Marriage by Licence at Bradley
« on: Saturday 20 May 23 16:12 BST (UK)  »
Thank you for the replies.  Sarah Sims would seem to be the right person, buried within a couple of weeks of childbirth, the child survived.
The other Sarah is indeed her mother but I didn't have the burial date, thank you for that.
As regards the Bonds, the Ann Baddar who married Thomas Winfield must be Sarah's younger sister.
With the BTs showing nothing of interest and the original PRs online wrecked around the relevant time, I think I'll have to abandon obtaining the actual proof, even though many public trees have the marriage, usual story of clearly copied with no references.
Thank you for your input.

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / 1807 Marriage by Licence at Bradley
« on: Friday 19 May 23 19:28 BST (UK)  »
Evening all.
I am hoping that someone can tell me where I can find the marriage allegedly at Bradley 19/5/1807 of Sarah BADDER and John SIM/SIMM/SIMS and the Derbyshire Licences for that time.  Anc* has the parish online but the registers are in a dreadfully damaged state in places.
There are dozens of public trees showing the above date of this marriage, saying it was by licence but not one of them has any proof, apart from hints from Anc*.
I do like actual proof before I put anything on my tree, although I know that John did marry a Sarah who died in 1815 after childbirth.
I've looked at the PRs of the surrounding area but found nothing.
Any help would be welcome.  Thanks.

Welcome back to the mad world of tracing ancestors. I was wondering if you lived within shouting distance of Nottingham Archives and could see the record for yourself, always a very satisfying experience.  Otherwise there are some kind people who log in on the Notts page who do visit and could maybe look it up for you and report back.

Hello
The information on the Notts FHS CDs is from PR fiches,  put onto spreadsheets, sent to the co-ordinator to be checked and eventually onto the next edition CD.
I only know this because a number of years ago I did a lot of transcribing for the Society with the help of my own fiche reader.
The problem arose when the record was illegible for any reason, they then had to be guessed at, or in the case of ink blots and tears in the original, omitted altogether.  So while the CDs are extremely useful they cannot be 100% relied on as regards spelling or missing entries.  I hope this helps.

I also have BARKE coupled with HARRIS in Kirkby in Ashfield, should you find any of your family that overlap with them.

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Re: Baptisms in the 1600s at Bilsthorpe

Ooh, I'll just have to hope the BTs are reasonably legible.  It proves that the copied trees online are just that, one person guessed and the rest copied it.

How interesting!   Thank you very much for the information.  IF I manage to get to Nottingham Archives at all this year I can look at the whole document.  I wouldn't have found this without your input.

Stay safe.
