Hi everyone
Can anyone tell me when the Probation Service started? Would they have had Probation Officers in London in the 1900s?

I understand that the above was the fore runner of the British Legion. Does anyone Know where I can find out more about it ? I am particularly interested in the Battersea and Clapham branches.
Thanks

Thanks Forester
Well I am glad I am not completely stupid! but sorry there is no record. What a pity, I know he was 'promoted on the field of battle' and there is a certificate signed by Winston Churchill - sadly not on my wall. I suppose it is unrealistic to expect everything to survive the years, I am amazed at the amount of stuff that has.

Hi Ady
Thanks for the info, not sure if the GWR who enlisted in 1915 is our man as he would have just turned 15. The cadet was my Grandfather to the best of my knowledge.

Cheers

Hi mm45
His name was George Walter Roche born 1900 though he was pretending to be 21 in 1917. His father was also George Walter Roche and was definitely in the Motor Transport Corps in WW1
Any help much appreciated, thanks
