Hi cimbrio, if it helps your research, in 1881 Alfred was probably living in Litmarsh with a t not an l. It's a small area just next to Marden to the NE.
You say Sarah married a man called Walwyn, was that his first name or his surname?
If you want to find out more about poor old William's story the main local paper is The Hereford Times, it would certainly have covered that event. Also you could try the Court archives as there would have been a trial if the culprit was apprehended, and, in those days, a hanging!

Yes you're right about Thomas, he was born in Knighton, Radnorshire, abt 1827-31, and Mary in, Bodenham, Hfds, abt 1825-29, Remembering their ages doesn't seem to be too important for this family! I think Charles may not have survived childhood since he's not there in1861, and Henry appears in 1855, sadly that's 10 years older than my mystery man, unless...
