Wiltshire Lookup Requests / Mary SMITH baptism in Calne
« on: Monday 16 May 11 08:19 BST (UK)  »
Is anyone able to locate Mary Smith's baptism record? She was born circa 1818 in Calne and her father was John Smith. She has a brother John Smith born 1828 in Calne too. Her brother was a hairdresser. They relocated to London sometime before she got married in 1842.
Thanks

Thanks Karenlee. This line of my family don't seem to have moved out of the area in 100 years! Is there any easy way for me to be able to access Parish records like these?

Frederick White b.1820 Pentonville or Marylebone, residence all adult life in Marylebone. Had his own hairdressing business. Sister Julia White b.1838.

Can anyone see who his parents/Dad was from the 1821 or 1831 census or baptism records?

Other info:  He may or may not have married Mary Smith in the area, as she was not from London. First son was baptised Holy Trinity, Marylebone and another son married at St James, but one daughter was married in St Matthew's Church (Pancras).

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Young, John Raby b.1801 approx
« on: Thursday 21 April 11 07:22 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone find any further information (eg parents details) on John Raby Young, born in Norfolk around 1801. Possible brothers could be Thomas & William. He got married in Hilgay to Mary Ann Roberts. I have census returns for him. Goodrum could be a potential maiden name for mother, as family in the habit of using family names as middle names in children and grandchildren.
Thanks

Thanks so much. Apologies for not reading this post sooner, I somehow didn't get email notification.

Yes, this is certainly the guy I am looking for. Since posting I found four children, Jane b. 1850, Jane b. 24 March 1858 (my ancestor), John William b. 1853 and Margaret Helen b.1855.

I had worked out he had married a Rachel, but only knew that it was probably Hunter.

If you have any further information, I would be very happy to read it.

Thanks once again.

Hi

Hmm, polygamy is not unheard of I admit. However, Hen. Rich. Coomber is clearly living with Ellenor (wife 2) and children of of Mary (wife 1) and wife 2 in the 1871 census. It didn't include children,
George C Coomber(1869)
Jane K Coomber(1878)
Mable B Coomber(1880)
Ernest E Coomber(1875)
Sarah H Coomber(1873)
born at the same time as Ellenor's, as listed in your post.  Mary is likely to have died in 1866, the same year he married Ellenor.

Thanks for your help anyhow.

Does anyone have any further information John and Mary Goudie's family? They had one son that I know of - Charles Wilson Goudie b. 1818 Liverpool. Mary's maiden name was Pascoe, and was probably from Cornwall.

This family's name has been also spelt Gowdie and Galdie.
