They have been a bit tricky! They are my Gggparents

Edward Edwards being my ggfather and also a bit elusive

Yes, I have marriages for all the children except Harriett . Edward being in my direct line. And followed their families down too

Eldest son Lewis came as part of the package with Mary when she married Edward. Lewis later dropped the Edwards and reverted to his mother's name Shepherd so there's a story there ...

There's not a lot of other people researching this line as far as I know. Nothing much come up DNA wise either

Hi Carol,

Thank you  Both of those are possible avenues and give me something else to look at.

I had a different possible death for Mary in Pontefract in 1900 instead.

I have a note ( which I can't find the evidence for now) that says Edward was father of the bride at daughter Emma's wedding in 1889... without the paper trail I wonder if he had just been named and I assumed he was alive. That had thrown me off looking earlier

It would mean both parents died before they were 30 though but none of the children did? Not impossible of course. Does that seem likely though to you?

Thanks again

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Shephard/ Edwards - missing
« on: Monday 10 April 23 14:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am looking for Mary (nee Shephard) b1842 Fairburn  and Edward Edwards b1842 b Matlock
Married 1864
Last seen Census 1871 in Castleford with their 5 children.
Edward was a engine driver and looks to have worked around Mexborough/Doncaster/Barnsley/ Castleford area

By 1881 the children were living with other relatives

Children
Lewis (1861–1915)
Harriet Ann (1865–)
Edward (1866–1920)
Emma (1868–1912)
James (1869–1945)

I think Ive searched all the obvious places and some of the less obvious. A common surname isn't helping . I wondered if anyone had any suggestions please?

Hi

I wondered if anyone is still active on Rootschat in this quite old thread?

I have oral history in my family that my 3/4ggrandparent is alleged to have eloped and either he or she was one of the "Becketts of Mohinna" . The reason for the elopement was allegedly a religious /social difference. There was a "coachman" involved somewhere too in this tale of intrigue
They ran as far as England where the descendants of this story declared themselves as RC

This is the first time I have seen a link to Moyhenna and the Beckett family. From reading this thread the Becketts were Church of Ireland so that would make sense?

In my ancestry I have a Christiana Becket of independent means lodging with Patrick and Mary Lawless (Nee McGan) in 1841 in Sheffield all born Ireland. Christiana was born 1786-91

Does this ring and bells with anyone ? Please do get in touch if you have any tiny clues as it could be the missing piece

Thanks

Hi Allan

I haven't found any other siblings between James in 1817 and Edward 1828 - which is a little unusual given the time between their births.

My connection is through Mary Ann b 1791. Daughter on Magnus and Theodosia

Hi

The Cokelers seem to be in Sussex but the Plumstead Peculiers were in Essex.
Two different sects I would think even if similar?

Did the OP find any other information on the PPs?

Thanks

Hi kilnerg

Thomas G Hatton's (b 1871) mother was Eleanor/Ellen Joslin Edwards.
Ellen's father was Gomer Joslin Edwards
Gomer's father was Robert Edwards b 1775
Robert's father was Robert Edwards 1737 who lived at Pandy bryn y barcut. He is my 5ggfather

Or put a bit more simply Gomer's daughter Ellen married a Hatton!

Hi
I do have a baptism for James Mariner
P00144-2  374461 James Mariner  Baptism Date:  2 May 1794  Parish:  Collegiate Church of St Katherine By The Tower  County:  London  Borough:  City of London  Parent(s):  Magnus,  Theodosia  Record Type:  Christening  Register Type:  Parish Register

I don't have any other information on him though. He has another brother Henry Magnus as well as William and sister Mary Ann. The other 2 siblings didn't survive to adult hood

Does that help?

Di
