The Common Room / Re: Does anyone know of any current Ancestry special offers?
« on: Wednesday 31 December 25 22:06 GMT (UK)  »
Biggles50 has just posted an Ancestry 12 month offer that (slightly) beats this one, £88 Worldwide, £58 UK.  Offer ends 12 Jan 2026.

Mine expires tomorrow so hopefully it will work for me.

Even cheaper than the special offer many of us have been using for the last few years.
See this thread https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=832955.msg7702894#msg7702894

Mine expires tomorrow  ;D

It wasn't uncommon for people living together to lie about being married in order to "appear respectable".  Maybe Joseph William Chitty was still married to someone else, have you traced him back?

The Lighter Side / Re: Genealogical novels on offer on Kindle

I agree with Roobarb and Chrissie, Hiding The Past is a good one to start with.  It was the first Nathan Dylan Goodwin book I read and it got me hooked on the Morton Farrier series.

I haven't read The Marriage Certificate by Stephen Molyneux, but my Kindle tells me I have partially read one of his other books, The Death Certificate.  I seem to remember I was enjoying it but must have got distracted by another book, I must get back to it.

I haven't read anything by Beth Farrar or M. K. Jones.

If you enjoy the Morton Farrier series I think you will also like the Jefferson Tayte series by Steve Robinson.

The Chester Creek Murders is currently FREE on Kindle!

Sorry Jool, no sign yet of the other Morton Farrier books, I'm still keeping an eye out for them.   :)

Thanks for keeping an eye out for me Roobarb :).  I have downloaded The Chester Creek Murders, hopefully the DNA side of it won't baffle me. I have very little understanding of DNA, maybe the book will help me grasp it a bit better  :-\

I was just looking at the same article...

Hi Keith, I cannot post the full article here as you have posted on a "lookup requests" board which doesn't allow attachments.

I can add this to what maddys has already posted.   Thomas Snaith was described as a retired ganger and the accident happened near Croft Railway Station.  The driver of the train, a London-Edinburgh 70mph express, said he first saw the man on the track 400 yards away, blew his horn, but the man's attention seemed to be distracted by a train coming the other way.

Hmmm, I think it may be staying where it is, Roobarb.  I wanted to move it with 2 cuttings I have in pots to the other fence to deter any pesky intruders as that fence borders a road rather than a neighbour's garden.  I will let you know how I get on if I decide to attempt it  :-\
