Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Mattingley Henley-on-thames look up
« on: Saturday 11 July 09 06:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi Nigel,

I am also descended from these Mattingleys.    My G.grandfather was Alfred Joseph, son
of John Thomas & Elizabeth Ann.  I have been researching  them for a number of years and
have them back to Roger Mattingley Born 1693 Married Jane Spicer.  I also live in Melbourne.
Did you Know Elizabeth Ann started on of the first schools in Melbourne (Now the Errol St Primary
school in North Melbourne.  Also they came on the ship with their own furniture and a large tent
and camped in the Flagstaff Gardens as accomodation was hard to find because of the gold rush.
The father and sons took turns patrolling around the tent at night due to the ruffians in the area.
Most of  the first generation are buried in the Melbourne General Cemetary.  Please contact me for
further info.

Susanne

Kent Lookup Requests / Re: Kennard in East Farleigh/Farley and Cranbrook.

In the East Farleigh records are the burials of David Kennard and his wife Sarah (nee Foster) it lists their children and they didn't have a Mary.
I Believe the Mary Kennard married to Stephen Stanley is Mary Kennard bap 28 June 1812 Cranbrook of William & Elizabeth this fits perfectly with her age and place of birth given in the census records.

I am also descended from George Manwaring and Mary Stanley through their  son George born Cootamundra 20/11/1858.
I never had a maiden name for Mary Stanley (wife of Stephen) but have followed the family forward via the Census records.
I was always under the impression that the Mary Kennard who married George
Meale was born 1810 Brenchley and she was the daughter of Richard Kennard and Ann Champs. I was sure the immigration records when they entered Australia Listed it that way (I will have to look that up again)
I would like to get in touch with your Friend to compare research.

Hi Brenda,

I noticed on your message you have the name Butler.  I am looking for
the Surname Scott in Mountrath but the name Butler also comes into it.
My ancestor James Edmund Scotts mother was Susan Butler and at his marriage in 1840 in Mountrath Church (church of Ireland)  one of the wittnesses was Matthew Butler Scott.  Were your Butlers from here as well. I am from Australia and am having trouble researching Irish ancestors from here.
I believe his wife (Sarah Scott) was born in Mountrath.  The Scotts had Ann
Grove Abbey but cannot find a birth for her (would have been about 1814)

Regards Susanne Lawson

I am searching for the birth record of Sarah Scott who married James Edmund Scott in Mountrath 7th Feb. 1840.  She was listed as from Clonenagh & Clonagheen.  He was from Ancaster Upper Canada. I have been looking for the marriage of these two GGreat Grandparents of mine for over 20 years and now have found it but can go no further
