You need to be more specific if possible - do you for example have a date of birth, details of siblings, or occupation?   My wife had an uncle of the same name but it may be a completely different person.

Thank you very much indeed Carole :)

I'm still hoping somebody might have some old pics of Westbourne Street.  The building is still there although it has been drastically altered.  On the other hand the house the Hibberds lived in in Blatchington Road looks just as it must have looked when they were there.

I am looknig for any information on a Henry Brice and a J. Sweetman/Sweatman living at 44 Norway St during WW1 at this address. An uncle of mine A.R.Knight was corresponding with J Sweetman/Sweatman while serving in France. Would love to find out who these people were, possibly relations.

Peggy

I used to walk past Norway Street on my way to and from school many many years ago. Despite what is said later on this thread Norway Street, Portslade is definitely not a street of shops.  Its quite close to me and I would be happy to go and have a look and take a pic of number 44 if you like.  Let me know.

Hello Rosemary

That sounds like a novel and very good idea and I will have to give it some serious thought.

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread and sent me messages.

I will persue the search at the library when I can get there.

Thanks to the links above I have established that Grand Lodge provides a search service which is free if you know which lodge your ancestor belonged to.  In my case, because I did not have that information the search was going to cost me £30 which I decided was not cost effective as I simply wanted to know whether or not my Grandfather had been a Freemason.

I must say that I am constantly astonished by the kindness of members of this forum and the time and trouble you take to help out.  Its much appreciated.

Please excuse my ignorance Paulene as I am new to this but how would I go about tracking down his obituary please?

Thank you Paulene.

The death was in England where they tend to be quite secretive - especially as compared to Scotland.

I have a 'Wallington Wookey', no idea where the Wallington bit comes from  :-\

acceber

It was quite common to give (for example) the eldest son, his mothers maiden name as a forename, indeed I was delighted to be able to confirm that was the origin of one of my my dad's forenames - Campain.  Just recently I read that in addition children were often names after geographical locations - possibly thats where Wallington came from.
