How does the 'within a few Yards of York and Newcastle railway station' fit into this?

Here is the advert.

As you say, White le Head is nowhere near the east Coast Main Line.

Do you think there are actually two separate items in this auction?

One is the Public House, location unknown but near a colliery and very close to the main north-south railway line, and the other is the garden at White le Head occupied by George Smailes?

Chester-le-Street was about 8 miles away and that could be the cause of the confusion.

Chester le Street was the name of the Registration District.

I think this is the right place. The previous place-name is Tantobie and the following one is Bushblades.

Added - sorry I was wrong about Chester le Street being the R D. It was in Durham and Lanchester RD and Tanfield sub-district.

The Greek word is εκκλησια (church).

That stone is exactly the same as mine - with the R A badge in the cross.

I was thinking that Cross Headstone meant one in the shape of a cross  :-\

Might it be be the design of headstone C(ross) H(eadstone) as explained on the CWGC website here

https://www.cwgc.org/visit-us/visiting-a-cwgc-site/cwgc-headstones/

I have just disproved that idea. This burial is marked CH and it’s the standard design

There are two Italian soldiers in the same burial report who are marked W.X.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Sidwell

The originals show month of birth before baptismal given name. In Sidwill's case she appears between "? Aprilis Rosa" and 7 Aprilis Thomas" yet the month against her appears to be "Novembris"?

The first words in the entry are 'Eodem die' - on the same day, i.e. the same as the previous entry.
