Thanks for your input Fred. What I really need to know is,-- Does the Principal go on the militia list & give all his personal details before choosing & paying for a substitute? If this happens where are the  lists for the Principals  kept?
    Regards, cee

I have an ancestor who is named as a PRINCIPAL in a Deserters List of the West Norfolk Militia in 1803. Does anyone know if there would be a record of the Principal, stating his age, place of birth etc.?  If so , where would I find it?
I hope someone can help.   Cee

Found On Familysearch. Baptisms, Charles Dall Dec.28.1810 & Joseph Dall, Nov.29.1816, at Clayton St. Wesleyan, Blackburn. Father named as  John Wesley  Dall & Mother Elizabeth. I think that Roger aged 20 & a blacksmith (living with James Capstick & family) is  the nephew of James. His mother is Emma Capstick, & Roger was baptised in 1817 in Preston Patrick.(see Familysearch) His mother was unmarried. Most of his Capstick relations are here, except James, whose baptism I have never found, & William, baptised in Kirkby Lonsdale. The Ann Capstick baptised in 1803 is my GGG grandmother. Hope this is of interest to you. Regards, Cee.

Thanks for replies regarding Peter Mcgrath & Patrick Hornby. By the time of the England 1841 census they are both in lancashire. Patrick was a shoemaker, I think he was about 20 when he came to England. He married a Bridget Riley (possibly in Ireland). According to the 1851 England census, Peter was born in Roundtown. That, unfortunately, is all I know. Cee.
