Hello Heather
Thanks for that information. Do you know why they are listed as VIncent? I can't understand that.

Yes, I am related to Ken, researching the same family, we are second cousins but have never met. we will need to refctify that soon.
Ken told me that you live near Cossington?

The Common Room / Re: Age on certificate
« on: Saturday 24 May 08 09:11 BST (UK)  »
I hate it when there is no age mentioned, especially when I am looking for clues as to age, and that is the main reason for getting the cert.  I assume most times that people in the 1800s were 20ish when they married, but of course if they are listed as 'widower' (or widow) then that can change dramatically. Any clues from experienced family searchers?

Hello Leanne
That looks like a great idea, I imagine he will be related somewhere along the line, especially coming from that area.
Thanks for the info

Hi Jenn
No I don't have that electoral roll, and that would be great if you could post it.
I have his death cert, but not much extra info on there, he must have been quite secretive! Doesn't say how long he was here
Thanks

Hi Jenn,
Just found Cornelius on the 1881 censu!
It's very strange though. He was living next door to Caroline Meaker, and that was also his mother's name before she married. Coincidence maybe, or another family member

Hi Sparrett,
No, that was the same Cornelius that got himself married at the age of 87! Bit of a wild lad in  his day, I believe! There are lots of family stories about him, not all good I'm afraid

Thanks everyone. That is the correct Cornelius, I have already got the info after his arrival here, and I will have another look at the census.
I am really interested in how he got here. I would imagine that he couldn't have come unassisted, as he was a farm labourer and wouldn't have had any money. And he married Emily Organ in 1888, so where can I look for him in those few years (1881-1888)?
I have found that the name (Diment) is spelled several different ways along the way- Dyment, Dimond, Dymond etc
Thanks for the help

Australia / Can't find Cornelius
« on: Sunday 04 May 08 01:56 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help?
I have been looking for Cornelius Diment, who came to Australia before 1881, he does not appear on this census. I have searched all the immigration records I can find, assisted, unassisted etc, but no mention of him. In the 1881 census his father and 4 younger children are in a workhouse, mother is a servant, and no Cornelius. He was born 1862 in Cossington, Somerset, and I imagine he would have been about 18 when he came here with a brother who was 2 years younger.
Any suggestions? I am beggining to think he flew!!
Thanks
Chris
