Hi Spruso.Your James Pearson farmed at the townland of Grogan, civil parish of Rathsaran which is within the RC Parish of Rathdowney. The Harveys were in two townlands close by eg Knockeel and Ballybuggy . You are welcome to a local townland map if you would like to contact me directly. There is still a Pearson living locally who can be found if you log on to Eircom Phonebook.Bill.

Richard Orange,Clonmore,Rathdowney,Co.Laois is the only entry in Griffiths for Co.Laois circa 1849. Such an unusual surname has got to be connected to your ancestor. If you look in Eircom Phonebook on line you will find that the name exists today in Dublin,Kildare and Wicklow only,a total of six entries .Should be worth a postcard.Bill

Hi. I found a Christopher White at Castle St. Rathdowney in 1849.There were hundreds of Whites in the county, some of whom were friends and neighbours of my family. They were more than likely descendants of what are termed as Cromwellian "adventurers".There is a list of them on line taken from the book "The Cromwellian Settlement of Ireland" by J.P.Prendergast,look under "Cromwellian adventurers" on Google. These were Brits who invested money in Cromwells army in the 1650s in return for land taken from the Irish. If I knew your e-mail addy I would send a download from the book which shows Henry White of Southwark in London, exactly the same place as my possible ancestor Samuel Hyland.Good luck ,Bill

Hi Stuart. 1849 Isaac Langford had property at Avoley and Cloonagh,Rosenalis and Thomas Langford in Drinagh,Rosenalis, all three townlands just west of Mountmellick. The townland of Drummond is slightly more North/West. Presently there are two Langfords listed in the phonebook within twelve miles of these townlands.Would attach  maps if I knew your e-mail addy.Regards Bill.
