Thanks Osprey

No I dont have any certs at present as this is my husband's line and only getting to grips with this as I have been concentrating on my own side which is Irish and I thought that was hard to trace.  Will take heed of your warning re IGI.

Thanks again

Hi

Try contacting the local County Council where details of electoral rolls may be held or they may be able  to put you in touch with the right department.  Another area you could try searching would be old telephone directories.

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Weeks/Williams
« on: Tuesday 04 November 08 17:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Need help seeking further details of Morgan Williams born circa 1804 in Llynegwr Glam married Winefred born circa 1805 from Llangwmd Glam.

I have traced them on the IG Index but can find no further details except that of Morgan but no parentage or maiden name for Winefred.  Their daughter Catherine married Joseph Weeks circa 1851, it is through this marriage my husband's ancestry is connected which in turn linked with the name of Rapps.

I know this may be a very long shot but I know how resourceful everyone on here is.

Thanks again.

Lancashire / Re: Baptism record - Martha Ann Edwards (Dykes)

She may well not have been baptised in that Church or indeed ever.  Other than calling for her birth cert which would show the father's name only if legitimate or indeed if the mother decided to list this at the time of registration.

I have similar problems within my own ancestry as repeated marriages and the children assumed the most current surname making it difficult to trace the original.

Sorry cant be of any further help good luck

Lancashire / Re: BLACK family in Liverpool
« on: Monday 03 November 08 17:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Henry Black and his wife Mary and 2 sons are listed in the 1891 cenus Henry's birth place is shown as Menai Bridge Anglesey and as you say Mary from Dumfries the 2 sons James and David being also born in Anglesey the rest of the children in Liverpool.

Check the following site out which will shown some Liverpool local history in particular it will show a picture of Richmond Row and a Cocoa Room sign.  I presume that Henry must have been a manager of one of these

hope the link sheds some light on your ancestors

Hi

No problem it looks like somewhere there is a connection must tell hubby but its a hard slog as with all coalmining communities I think they were migratory people.

By the way  John Rapps (original spelling 1819-1887 married Mary Weeks).

Hi

Dont know if this is helpful but traced 2 marriages for a Samuel Southern.  Both are Army marriages one taking place 1890 details held on page 90 of the Overseas BMD and the second one on page 119 this marriage took place in 1894.  Both were stationed at Lucknow India.  I would try there to see if you can obtain marriage certs.

Hi John

The only details I have are below.  It is John (Jack) Rhapps born 1876 who is my husband's grandfather Uriah being his father.  Havent managed to trace anything further.  Seems a lot of the Rapps/Rhapps clan hail from Somerset and then possibly then Prussia States.  It seems strange that until the 1881 census the family name was spelt Rapps then suddenly a 'h' was added.  This could have been purely because the numerator at the time couldnt spell or my theory is that obviously being Welsh he assumed it was spelt with a 'h'.

There appears to be a lot more details regarding the Rapps from High Littleton but beyond 1819 nothing for the Welsh connection.

Can I ask what part of the lineage are you hailing from.

By the way attaching a photo of Jack Rhapps in his Welsh Rugby shirt he was actually capped 3 times.

Kind regards

Ann
