Norfolk / Re: Previous marriage dissolved. What does it mean?

Many thanks Nanny Jan & Dawn for your replies.

Really appreciate the content of your reply Dawn. I think you`ve probably answered my question regarding applying for a copy of the divorce papers, as you mention, it seems an awful lot of money to pay for little return.

Although I am curious to find out more details I feel the investment is not worth the basic information that is returned.

Sincere thanks.

Many sincere thanks xin, Nanny Jan and Margp for your replies.

Looks like an expensive exercise trying to locate divorce papers. I`ll have to ponder on that option for a while. The person concerned is not a blood relative and whilst I am interested and intrigued there are more "important" certificates I would prefer to order from my paternal line first.

Really appreciate everyone taking an interest in this thread.

Thankyou very much.

Thank you very much Sandymc and xin for your replies, your interest and replies to my post are very much appreciated.

Would you happen to know how I could obtain a copy of the divorce papers? I know the wifes first marriage took place in Prescot, Lancashire but she obviously moved back to Norfolk before marrying my relation in 1958.

I have checked The National Archives site but the searches for Divorce case files go from 1858-1937. Are there any other options or ways of finding out?

Many thanks again

Norfolk / Previous marriage dissolved. What does it mean?
« on: Monday 27 June 11 21:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I`ve just ordered and received a marriage certificate for a relation of mine who married in 1958. (Both now deceased).

The husbands condition is listed as Widower. The wifes condition is listed as Previous marriage dissolved.

Does anyone know what "Previous marriage dissolved" means please.

I`ve found the wifes first marriage on the BMD indexes and she was married for the first time in 1946. If she divorced, are there any records available?

Many thanks in advance for any help and replies.

Norfolk / McKown/Pepper death entry query?
« on: Sunday 19 June 11 15:43 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know why a death entry would appear to be listed on the death indexes twice.

I`m querying a death for Gladys Gertrude McKown in 1998 but there is a second entry for Gladys Gertrude Pepper. ( Pepper was her second and last married name,  McKown her married name from her first marriage )

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Many thanks

Norfolk Lookup Requests / NBI 2 Look up please
« on: Saturday 22 August 09 19:22 BST (UK)  »
Just wondering if anyone has access to NBI 2 who could carry out a couple of look up`s for me please. :)

I`ve tried FreeBMD and Memorial Inscriptions websites but there is no mention, possibly due to dates? I am therefore hoping someone may be able to check NBI 2 to see if there are any candidates by carrying out the reverse age calculation.

I`m looking for Charlotte Pepper, unfortunately I have no details only that she was living in West Norfolk, possibly Saddlebow area near Kings Lynn?? She married an ancestor of mine in 1922 but he was 76 at the time and Charlotte was his third wife.

I`m also trying to find a burial for Edith Groom who was born in 1895, she was still a spinster in 1962 and living in the West Winch area of Kings Lynn.

Many sincere thanks in advance for all replies.

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Re: Burial for George Groom please.
« on: Friday 14 August 09 23:18 BST (UK)  »
Thank you very much Amber39 for your reply and the details you enclose.

According to the Census forms that George Groom was listed on he was either a Farm Steward or Gardener.

Since placing my post I`ve located baptism records for most of the children. The first five children baptised have parents listed as George and Hannah.  The sixth and seventh children baptised Jane Violet in 1891 and Edith Rose in 1894 just have Hannah listed. Ran out of time to look for Mabel.

As I`m struggling to find George in 1891 and 1901 perhaps the baptism records for Jane Violet and Edith Rose tell us that George was not on the scene??

Thanks again Mrs. Coppertop

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Burial for George Groom please.
« on: Thursday 13 August 09 19:44 BST (UK)  »
I`ve been trying to find a death or burial for George Groom.

George Groom was born December quarter 1856 in Downham registration district. He married June quarter 1876 again in Downham district.

I`ve found him on the 1881 Census living in West Winch but can not find him after that although his wife is listed as Head of the house living in West Winch on both 1891 and 1901 Census but on the 1911 Census she is now showing as Widow.

Does anyone have access to NBI 2 who could carry out a check for George Groom. If there are any listed perhaps the reverse age calculation back to his birth year could rule possible candidates in or out.

Any other tips or suggestions most welcome.

Many thanks in advance
