Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Drowning - Greenhithe 1939
« on: Monday 11 January 10 12:24 GMT (UK)  »
Redjack

Many Thanks for that; someone ,also, suggested the Gravesend and Dartford Reporter and I subsequently contacted Gravesend Library and the extremely helpful staff there even went to
the trouble of scanning the microfiche records and emailing me the actual copies. Received just this weekend so I guess this thread is now complete.

How do I mark the original as such? Could someone please advise?

Kind Regards

Tracy

The paper would have probably been the Gravesend and Dartford Reporter. I recently enquired at Gravesend Library for similar information concerning a family death in Greenhithe and they were extremely helpful and actually found the article and emailed it to me from their microfiche archives so  Dartford library should have similar records. It will help them if you have fairly precise details re dates and names.

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Drowning - Greenhithe 1939-COMPLETED- THANKS
« on: Thursday 10 December 09 16:28 GMT (UK)  »
I have discovered that a great Uncle of mine was found drowned (in the thames I presume) in Greenhithe 1939.
Details:- Francis George Kent born 1905 death Aug 11th 1939.

I am presuming that an inquest would have been held. Are these records in the public domain?

Does anyone know where I might find out more about this? Also, what local newspapers were there at the time that may have reported on this.

Thank you

I'm not sure if this link will work but if you can pull up this site of kent in 1789 you can clearly see old terrys lodge and terrys lodge around even then.

Cambridgeshire / Re: PRYKE/HOWE/LOMAS - Kirtling/Newmarket area
« on: Sunday 24 May 09 15:42 BST (UK)  »
My GGGF was William How(e) .  His parents were George How and Susan Claidon (Claydon)  George and Susan apparently had two daughters called Mary, one b 1837, the other b 1857.

My GGGrandmother Mary was born 1837 , must be a sister to your GGGF William. I have yet to discover how she met my GGGrandfather Thomas Harry Kent @ 1862 I guess but they married in 1872 in Bristol after having had four children before this marriage. All four were baptized in Kirtling church between 1863 and 1870 . They lived in various places in and around London. They had two more children in Bristol before returning to London. However, Thomas Harry Kent was previously married in 1855 to an Eliza Bedford and had three children with her. She was still living with one of those children in 1871 and with another child in 1881 , 1891 and 1901!! So I have to conclude a bigamous marriage to Mary. In the 1871 census Mary is entered as Abincas (birthplace Kirtling) living with Thomas Harry and two of their children and two of the children from his first marriage. (This is how I tied them up). I would love to hear any family lore concerning the Howe family . Ending on a sweeter note, one of Thomas and Mary's sons called Albert Ernest b 1872 ended up as the chief Fire Officer for Swanscombe in Kent and was a highly regarded dignitary by the town. But that's another story.

Thanks

London and Middlesex / Suicide - London Bridge
« on: Monday 23 March 09 01:11 GMT (UK)  »
This may well be a bit of a long shot but I am trying to find out more information about the suicide of my Grandmother's brother in the late 1940's early 1950's.

I am struggling because I can't find a death registration to then pursue further.

Francis George Kent born Dartford Kent 1905 married a Florrie Kent  and lived with their children in Paddington . However it is understood that he commited suicide at London Bridge Station but as I say I can't find any more information . Would there have been an inquest and if so where might I find the records for that?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thank you

Kent / Re: Wells - Gadshill
« on: Wednesday 25 February 09 15:58 GMT (UK)  »
I may have a link in that my GG Grandfather Arthur Henry Wells b 1883 was brought up by by his stepfather Richard Wells b 1860? who married Arthur's Mother Dorcas Mason in  1890 . Richard is from a family who ran "The Victory "public House in Gads Hill Gillingham during the  1800's. Richards father and mother were Richard W ( William?) and Harriet who was seemingly the landlady as Richard Senior is listed as a mariner in 1871 census.

Any interest to you?
