Hello Bryant,

Thanks for the advice.  It worked like magic.  Unfortunately none of them are my Alfred.  I guess I will have to plod along reviewing the marriages recorded and then start on the deaths again.  My mystery man must be recorded somewhere.

Thanks for your help in getting me this far.

David

Hi Bryant,

Thanks for the info.  I tried the link you sent but there were no emigrating Magaurans to be found.  I don't understand why I didn't get a result.  Anyway, I will be going to the Brighton History Centre on Tuesday to access Ancestry and, hopefully, their emigration records and, hopefully, have a bit more luck.

If you can point me in the right direction I would be grateful but I expect you have enough to do for yourself.

Cheers,

David

Hi ev,

I haven't got a photo of Alfred but I am pretty sure he stood on two legs!

Yes, his brother Edward died in WWI.  I am searching the M&D records for a second (or is it for the third) time and if I don't find anything I will have to wait for the 1911 Census data to be released.  I can't find anything in the New York emigration listings either.

Cheers,  Magelec

Hi Legs,

My great grandfather John was registered as being born in Bermondsy on 16/3/1860.  The Leitrim connection is interesting as his father, Charles and wife, Margaret came from Ireland (either Cavan or Leitrim as there are other Magaurans living in that part of Ireland) before 1853.  I have to persevere with checking the marriages & deaths after 1901 all over again.

Thanks for your efforts.   :)

Can anybody find out if Alfred Magauran is buried in the City of London Cemetery please?  Any time after 1901.  Thanks

Hi Alllegs,

Thanks for your reply.  Yes, he's the fella.  I have tracked down all the others but no such luck with him.  It's no good using FreeBMD as they are not up to date.  I have to check all the M&D entries via Ancestry of by viewing the microfiche records at my local library.  I am also checking phonetic or near spellings.  I did check the New York passanger lists but no luck there.  As far as I can see nobody in my family were the emigrating type though you never can tell.  They (my great great grandfather and his wife) originally came from Ireland, around the mid 1800s I guess.  Their children were born in Bermondsy/Southwark.  I hope I don't have to wait 'till the release of the 1911 census to see if he was still around.

Alfred was born during the period April/May/June 1892.  His birth was registered in St Olave, Southwark, London.  He was the son of John Magauran, my great grandfather.  Alfred is the only person for whom I cannot find, so far, any trace of a marriage or death.  I am presently trawling through the BMD records for a second time, thus far without success.  I am searching for information about his life to see if he has any descendants whom would be related to me.
