PS  I should also say that I have the burial record for Lawrence but not death certificate

2
In relation to Lawrence and Mary (Perriman) SHELL, I have been unable to find a baptism for Lawrence including having looked at name variations like SHAIL, SHAILE, SHILL etc.

My problem is as follows.  Mary's illegimate daughter Mercy Perriman noted her father as Henry PERRIMAN when she married the first time to Thomas GAY.  (I have not be able to find a Henry PERRIMAN and suspect it may ahve been a name to put on the certificate and nothing else.  When Mercy married a second time, she noted her father to be John SHELL a labourer. Again I have not been able to find at all. Her mother Mary married Lawrence SHELL after Mary's birth and they had several children.  They only record I can find for Mary's daeth is one Mary SHELL who died in 1878 in Yate Union Workhouse.  Stated as the widow of John SHELL.

I am trying to clarify whether all these Marys are the same person.  I have tracked her in all appropriate census returns but does anyone have any record of John SHELL or Henry PERRIMAN or possibly tell me how I might gain access to Yate Union Workhouse records to see if they might enlighten me.  I am in NZ so my research is online or by post.  I would also be interested in any record of Lawrence other than his marriage record with Mary PERRIMAN or census returns as I have these.

I hope I have been sufficiently explicit, thorough and coherent here

Sussex Lookup Requests / Re: PATTERSON 1841/1851 Census Look Up Please

Thank you sillgen,

No, I'm not a member of the Sussex FH Group.  I find it hard to determine how worthwhile membership would be for all my areas of interest and try to prioritise them.  I have a worldwide subscription to ancestry (giving me best value) but that is about it at the moment.

Unfortunately I am not able to visit to see the records themselves as I am in NZ these days so rely heavily on internet access, hence prioritising costs.  I will however investigate the Sussex group as I am at a brick wall for this line.

many thanks for your notes too.  MUCH appreciated.  My late aunt investigated this line MANY years ago before computers and has William's parent s as Edward and Elizabeth but i do feel there is something not quite right despite knowing how meticulous she'd have been.  There have been some traditional naming patterns too of which Edward would not particularly fit and James and Mary would but nothing is certain!

Thanks again for the hint

Jo

Please forgive me if I ought to create a separate post, but the family mentioned

Mother:  ELIZABETH

possible siblings submitted by the same church member.

, I believe to be one of my branches.  I have been trying to establish the parents and sibilings for the father William GOLDSMITH, whom I think died Jan 1795 age 43 therefore born about 1751.

As previously mentioned by others, there are many trees with apparent corrupted information.  Is anyone able to do a parish look up locally to establish William's parents.  I have found nothing on line except William's marriage to Elizabeth Midmore or Midmer in 1788 at Heathfield (IGI).  Any help would be MOST welcome

Thanks for that Victor.  Think I have sorted the parents now thanks to everyone.  Dates and ages correspond for Mary's parents being Thomas and Ann (Dix) Perriman who were in Keynsham at that time

Hi Jo,
Source: Gloucestershire Family History Society (GFHS) Gloucestershire Baptism Index 1813-1837
Mercy PERRYMAN, dau of Mary PERRYMAN, baptised at Marshfield 9th March 1823.
There are also a number of other PERRIMAN/PERRYMAN baptisms recorded for 3 other families in Marshfield. If you would like details do let me know.

Thanks Victor.  Most kind.  Could you check and or comment on the parentage of Mary Perriman,  Mercy's mum.  There seem to be 2 options

Just an update.  Not sure of mary Perriman's parentage.  Have not really managed to establish with sufficient evidence for comfort.  Some suggest a Perryman/ Dix line and am awaiting source info to see if it can be verified
