Wiltshire / Re: Trimnells in Christian Malford
« on: Thursday 09 October 25 19:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi amondg.
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I have a copy of all of these relating to Trimnells in Christian Malford, including William T and wife Ann, Also William Junior and his brother Charles, sis-in-law Fridzwith, etc. Although great resources none give any indication or clues of earlier members or locations for the family. I feel their must be a connection of sorts to the Bremhill Trimnell's which includes Bishop Trimnell and his family.
The online resources say that his parents were Edmond T and Ann Jenkins from Bremhill, but there are no wills for them and I can find no concrete proof that that was the case.

Wiltshire / Trimnells in Christian Malford
« on: Thursday 09 October 25 10:31 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to take my Trimnell (also Trimmell, Trimlinge) line back from Christian Malford. My 8 x gt grandparents are William Trimnell, Clothier & yeoman of Trimnell's Farm, Christian Malford (XM), d. 27, bur. XM 313/1671 (will 21/4/1671) & wife Ann (surname unknown, bur. XM 22/4/1683.

They had at least 5 sons, William, Clothier, (b.c. 1643, bur. XM 1703, m. Lucy Webb); John, Clothier (c. 1649, bur. XM 1703, m. Fridzwith Hancock); Charles, Mercer (b. c. 1650, bur. XM 1685, m. Ann Gale); Edward, bp. XM 1655; Samuell, bp. XM 1657, bur. XM 1658.
William & Lucy had Lucy, William, Elizabeth, Ann, Jane, Robert, Bridget, Edward, Charles, Mary & Samuel.
John & Fridzwith had Mary, Robert, John, Fridzwith, Robert, Thomas, Ann, Lucy, Thomas, Elizabeth & Elizabeth.

Online sources say without evidence that William senior was a son of an Edmond Trimnell & Ann Jenkins opf the "Bremhill Trimnell's", and interestngly William junior & Lucy Webb's son William had children called Michael and Arthur names prominent in the earlier Bremhill family.
There was a Michael Trimnell and his son Robert, both of Charlcote, Bremhill. Edmond was also a common name in that family.

Also William junior and John had elder sons called Robert. So I wondered if William senior's father could be a Robert of Bremhill. I feel there must be a link.

There is also a random William Trimnell, son of William, bap. Lavington 1640, but I don't know where he fits in if at all??

If anyone can shed any light on William seniors origins pre Christian Malford, please let me know.

Many thanks.

Wiltshire / Colonel Thomas Eyre of Bromham & Hurst Castle
« on: Saturday 19 July 25 23:22 BST (UK)  »
Trying to find out what happened to Captain, later Colonel Thomas Eyre , originally from Bromham, later Captain/Castellan & Governor of Hurst Castle in Hampshire. I can find no mention of him or his family after he was removed from that post after the restoration in 1661.

Colonel Thomas was bap. in Bromham 26 January 1616-17, only child of Thomas Eyre (Eire, Ayre), junior of Bromham, by Judith dau. of Edgar Webb, Clothier of Rowde & Bromham (my 10 x great grandfather).
He marr. 1st (1636) Elizabeth Yerbury, d. 1637-8, and their only child Thomas b.& d. 1637-38.
He marr. 2nd. at Eling, Hampshire 13 June 1638 Elizabeth, dau. of Sir John Mill, 1st baronet of Camois Court, Hampshire.
His mother Judith marr. 2nd 1618 Francis Leigh, Clothier of Chittoe, Bromham by whom she had 9 more children.
Colonel Thomas & Elizabeth Mill had at least 7 children - Mary (b. 1640, bap. Bromham 1644); Elizabeth bap. Bromham 1644; William (b. 1647, bur. Isle of Wight 1648); Frances b. 1649/50; Sarah b. 1651; William b. 1652; Mabell b. 1653/54. The last 5 were born at Hurst Castle.

I can find nothing of the family after Mabell's bap in 1653/54, not even a will of either Colonel Thomas or 2nd wife wife Elizabeth.

I'd be grateful if anyone can help find out what happened to this family.

Wiltshire / Re: John Goldney of Devizes
« on: Thursday 23 January 25 17:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Vance. Thanks so much for your reply. I've had an interesting read of these links and the 1st Chancery on which I had seen ages ago was definitely worth a read again. I've got a slightly better handle on the family now and it indicates that in 1612 Gabriel had only 3 children alive then. He had married Robert Wrottesley's sister Elizabeth in 1588 (bur. Chippenham in 1601 as Elizabeth Farnwell I think) and they def had Gabriel 1589, Elizabeth 1592-94, Henry 1597-1601, Ann 1599-1616 and I think another Henry in 1601. The family is referred to as Farnewell alias Go(u)ldney from abt 1549! Online sources mention a son John born 1593 but I see no ref to him. There is a Jeffard Ffarnell / Goldneye bap 1594-5, bur 1596 so this might be a mistake. However this still leaves the mystery of John Goldney of Devizes died 1676 and his son Gabriel Goldney of Andover. Any more info to discover where they fit in welcome. There are a lot of Henry and Gabriel Farnwell or Goldneys to unravel in this family.

Wiltshire / John Goldney of Devizes

I'm researching the Gouldney/Goldney family of Devizes between about 1600 and 1660ish and having trouble finding any records during that period in Devizes. I'm trying to link John Goldney of Devizes will dated 1676, with John Farnewell alias Goldney, a son of Gabriel Farnwell alias Goldney, yeoman and Bailiff of Chippenham (bur. there 1639). The will gives the Administrator of John's belongings as Gabriel Goldney, Serge maker of Andover.
If someone can look in the Devizes bmd records during that period, or have any other info I'd be very grateful thanks.

Hi Vance.
Thanks for these links. Yes I have seen them. These are in fact Thomas's parents and are my direct line ancestors. I'm directly descended from their daughter and Thomas's sister Mary.

Many thanks for that one Vance. I'll investigate it. My Thomas was born probably in Dauntsey about 1658, so that might be his grandfather also called Thomas.

I'm researching my Peacock ancestors in Wiltshire (primarily Christian Malford and Dauntsey) in 17-18th centuries.
One Thomas Peacock born 1658, will dated 13 Nov 1692, married Mary Hubbard, Seagry 24 June 1677. He lived at Lea & Cleverton parish. He had issue Thomas, Edward, Robert, James, Ann and Mary. I can see Edward bap at Lea & Cleverton 24 June 1677 but no other information. If anyone has any other info on this family please let know. I'd be very grateful 😊

Many thanks both for all the information.

I had taken the Henry Washington baptism straight from Family Search without checking the original on Ancestry. So thanks for that Horsleydown. Definitely Southampton Buildings.
Thanks for the links to the Archive sources ShaunJ. I'll have a good look through these.

I've now found the burials of 2 of the children... Elianor at St Marylebone, Westminster on 2 June 1724 aged c. 5 weeks, and Henry at St. Sepulchre, London on 16 July 1719.
