US Completed Requests / Help? Jane Wadelin
« on: Friday 21 March 08 19:39 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for help with the following people:

Jane Maria WADELIN (nee BUSST)

Frederick Harry WADELIN

Jane Maria Busst (born 1855 in Wolverhampton, England) married Frederick Harry Wadelin (in Warrington, England in 1876).

In 1885 Jane and Frederick Wadelin emigrated to America, arriving on the ship Circassia in New York on 24 November 1885.

I do not have access to US records and would be most grateful if someone could assist with their movements after arrival in America.

I am interested in ANY information regarding them but would dearly love to know. . .

Any employment details
Place or places of residence in America
Whether they had any children
Their dates and places of death
Whether either/both of them left a will

Thank you for any assistance

Andy

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Walter William BUSST (1857-1934)

Thanks so much for that.

Wrongly transcribed surnames (?), no wonder I couldn't find them.

Now all I need to find out is why two of the three children had the surname BUSST and the surname of the first born was JACKSON. I don't think he changed his name as my grandfather said his name was always Jackson.

Thanks again

I may not have put it clearly so will try again....

Walter William Busst (1857-1934) and Elizabeth Williams (1873/74-1940)

They are my great Grandparents (listed as Walter William Busst & Elizabeth Busst on my grandmothers birth certificate)

There were 3 children

John Jackson (born 1909)
Walter Busst (born between 1910 & 1914))
Aileen Josephine Busst (born 1915)

Aileen Josephine was my Grandmother

Hope this helps

Ancestors in hiding  ???

I'm looking for info on my elusive Great Grandparents Walter William & Elizabeth BUSST.

I can find some birth & death references but nothing in the middle from census etc.

Walter was born 1857 in Wolverhampton & died 1934 in Salford Gt Manchester (can find B & D on BDM index)

Elizabeth was born Elizabeth WILLIAMS in Wales (can only find D in BDM index) Williams, born in Wales  :(

There were three children John JACKSON, Walter BUSST & Aileen BUSST (my Grandmother).

Questions I need to find answers for are:

1)   Why no census records?
2)   Why no marriage record?
3)   Why has John got a diffrent surname to the other children?
4)   Also after her death my grandfather said my grandmother (Aileen Busst) grew up in a children's home, how do I research this?

Any assistance or pointers as to where to look next would be greatly appreciated. Also neither of them are listed on the Manchester Council online burial/cremation records but the Manchester link is confirmed on my grandmothers birth certificate. Unfortunately my grandmother would not talk about her family & my grandfather mostly kept to this after her death.

Thanks

Andy

You have a Silver War Medal.

You should also have a (bronze) Mercantile Marine medal to go with it.

Hi there

Unfortunately I can't find his MIC on Ancestry (they are in colour & include the back of the card). Not unusual as not all of the MIC's are there yet. As for two Regt numbers, that is far from unusual as men often moved Regt's. The fact that the 1st Battn Durham light infantry is listed means that he served with them, not that he spent the whole of the war with them.

Do you have the medals? If so you may see that the inscription changes from the star to the BWM & Victory medal. If you don't have the medals, try checking the Medal Roll for the Battn, this may shed some light.

Also if he was commissioned he should have lost his number. There are examples of Officers who had numbers but this is rare!

If you need further help send me a pm as the Great War is my area of interest  :)
