Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Genetic Dna for ancestors

Hi has anyone tried any of the dna kits on Ancestry.co or others? Just wondering what peoples thoughts are about doing this, whether its a waste of time of not. My uncle has offered to do the cheek swab.  Have people who have done this connected with anyone?? Love to hear your thoughts :-*

I am wondering if anyone else is researching the Cattles. From what I understand there are 4 main lines and I think my London Cattles came from either the Northampton or Somerset line.

will check on the age for me. I just assumed that they would'nt do that.

I have a death certificate that I ordered for Frances Wilson year 1838
june quarter/ district clerkenwell/ vol 3/ page 53/ the difficulty I have is
making out her age at death as it is unclear.
  If anyone is going to record office could you please take a look for me
and see if you can make out her age at death.
  I may then have a certificate for someone who is searching for a Frances
Wilson who died as a pauper in the Clerkenwell Workhouse.

Thank you for that information I have learned something.  I have been to
the National Archives at Kew and found little information but perhaps it is
all I am going to find. Short service attestation, a very short correspondence from the ministry of pensions to his commanding officer
and a note in reference to him receiving a Kings certificate.
There is another photocopy of the back of statement of service with very
little on it but I can just barely make out 1st depot and then the rest is
unclear, not that there is much to see anyways.
Thanks for pointing out KR does not stand for Kings Regiment I will inform
the rest of the family!

Occupation Interests / Railway engine driver

My gg grandfather is listed as a railway engine driver in the census
and in earlier years a stoker.  My uncle said that being a railway driver was not that difficult is that true? Anyone know what was involved and would there be any records of engine drivers?

World War One / Grandad and 2nd battle of Arras

My grandad enlisted in the 13th London regiment  on the 21 Feb 1916.
He was wounded in the 2nd battle of Arras and was shipped off to hospital for some months to regain the use of his hand. Is it possible to
find out which hospital he went to and find out more info?
I was told by my father that while in hospital grandad  was visited by Princess Alice who was a patron of the regiment. She was not visiting him but the officers and unfortuately they had all been killed in battle so he was given the flowers that she brought. 
His army number #492207 I believe he was discharged Para 392 XV1
Kings regiment.

 :) Hi Ruskie,
thanks I will put my cattle surnames and dates on a specific county
board. I keep forgetting that there is a whole genealogy world out there
and not all focused on the UK. I will put them on this board as well and
keep the fingers crossed.  Yes, I was surprised of the many ways there
are to spell the Cattle name when I first delved into this.
  I am also searching for Smiths but thats another story!!

 :) Hi everyone,
anyone searching the elusive Cattle surname coming from the London
area? I have lots of Cattles starting in 1800 in Clerkenwell, St Pancras
have not gotten back any further. I was told by a family member that
they came from Spain but no indication of that in records!
