Would I be right in believing that your father-in-law is Allan Joseph McCurdy born in 1953
His father Laughlin Josepg [1921-1971] being a son of Allan McIntosh McCurdy [1885-1936]
Years ago I met up with Carol Lynn Ropp who is a granddaughter of Allan McI McC's brother William - she was then living in Normal, Illinois.
I was able to give her an album of post cards that Molly had collected over the years, which I received from a gentleman who had wound up her estate, in 1984.

There is also a whole connection who use the Curdy version of the surname ... John Gary McCurdy aka Curdy [1862-1930]

I have spent years seeking to collate and record the genealogy of the McCurdy family in general, and have been quite successful for some family connections and less so for others ...

I live near Moira, so reckon I am not too far from you (presuming you are still in the Belfast area? ... although I may be wrong on that lol

Hope to hear from you soon

Kind regards

Shane

Eoin - just seeing if this email link is still valid.
I have a fair bit of detail on the family. There was a son William (he was married with family, living in US), a daughter Molly (Mary McIntosh), who never married, a daughter Jane Garry who died young. They were buried in Belfast City Cemetery. He was a blacksmith.
Please come back to me and I can flesh out more detail, if this is still valid contact.
Kind regards

Antrim / Re: Clements of Headwood Kilwaughter
« on: Thursday 08 August 24 01:05 BST (UK)  »
Hello - coming late to this conversation.
I have a Hugh Clements McCurdy, born in 1938, whose parents were Hugh McCurdy [1891-1952] by his second wife, Mary Elizabeth Clements [1900-1988] - she was born at Headwood, Kilwaughter, the daughter of Thomas John Clements [1859-1934] and his wife Sarah Moore. He in turn was a son of James Clements [1822-1890] and Eliza Agnew [1831-1908] ... This James was a son of an Andrew Clements ...

I am trying to ascertain what the connection is between the earlier named Clements in the posting trail here, conscious that Henry Clements [1756-1831] was married firstly to Martha Simm [1752-1800], by whom he had his family, but that his second wife was a Mary McCurdy [per the gravestone in Old Ballynure] ... and thus trying to see if there is a connection between Hugh McCurdy above, and this Mary McCurdy, and thus, perhaps an indirect relationship with his wife Mary Elizabeth Clements ...

Grateful if anyone can help put me right on this 'conundrum' ...

Many thanks

Shane McCurdy

My apologies - quite right too ..

Mary McCurdy [1890] married Joseph Mitchell [1873 - 1955] on 20 February 1905 at St Charles’ Chapel, Newton, Cambuslang after publication according to the forms of the Roman Catholic Church by Louis De Meulanaire in the presence of John McCurdy and Lizzie Cannon (he was a son of Robert Mitchell, farmer, and Hannah McDade, both of whom were, in 1905, deceased) he was a steelworker, aet 30, from Flanagan’s Building, Westburn, Cambuslang (he signed with his  X  mark), and she was aet 15, living at 24 Dunlop Street, Newtown, Cambuslang. They were living at Cambuslang in 1911C - he was aet 35 and Mary was aet 21, and again in 1921C. He died aet 82, his death being registered in Cambuslang

in turn, we have:

Archibald McCurdy [1846/9 - 2 January 1897] married Catherine Murphy [1860 - 1918] on 23 October 1874 in St. Francis Chapel, Cumberland Street, Glasgow, after banns according to the forms of the Roman Catholic Church by Antonine Scannell in the presence of Eugene Harrington and Ann Murphy (she was a daughter of Daniel Murphy, an iron work labouer, (deceased), and Janet McAulay) he was an iron work furnacement, and a widower, aet 33, of 293 Thistle Street, Hutchesontown, Glasgow and she was a domestic servant, aet 26, also living at 2923 Thistle Street, Hutchesontown, Glasgow (she signed with her  X  mark) - steelwork labourer of 67 Westburn Rows. He was born at Bogend, Cambuslang - note his surname was recorded as McKurdy on his marriage registration, and as McKardie in 1891 Census

As far as I am aware Archibald and Catherine Murphy McCurdy had:

Archibald [1878]; Patrick [1877]; Isabella [1878]; Elizabeth [1881]; Annie [1884]; John [1886] and Mary [1890]. Patrick and John died unmarried. Archibald had family

I know you already have this detail, from the Mitchell/McDade connection:

Walter Mitchell [c1795 - indicative date] , farmer
Robert Mitchell [1818/29 - 10 April 1898] married Hannah McDaid aka Ellen McDade on 24 September 1864 at Dunfanaghy Registrars Office by John Moffitt, Registrar, in the presence of Hugh Hofferman and Andrew McNutt (she was a daughter of Dominick McDaid, farmer)  he was a farmer, aet 35, from Down, and she was from Kilmacloo, aet 24. She signed with her  X  Mark. His death at Dooen, (registration district of Letterkenny), aet 80, was registered by Robert Mitchell, of Dooen, his son. He was a farmer.

Susan McDaid [1818 - 28 December 1878] - her death at Glenkeeragh, (registration district of Church Hill, (union of Letterkenny) was registered by Ann McDaid, of Glenkeeragh, by her  X  Mark - she was a farmer’s widow, aet 60. Note: Glenkeeragh lies to the west of Letterkenny

John Mitchell [27 September 1864] - his birth at Glenkeragh,(registration district of Church Hill, union of Letterkenny) was registered by Susan McDade, grandmother, of Glenkeragh. Father, Robert was a labourer, resident at Doohan.

Susan Mitchell [10 March 1866] - her birth at Glenkerah was registered by Ellen Mitchell, her mother, by her. X. Mark. Her father was a farmer.

Joseph Mitchell [1874 - 1955] married Mary McCurdy in 1905 (registration district of Cambuslang) - does this seem right for their children?
    Catherine Mitchell [1907 - 1996] Cambuslang
         Mary Mitchell [1909] Cambuslang
         Joseph Mitchell [1912] - Cambuslang
         Archibald Mitchell [1914] - Cambuslang
         John Mitchell [1917 - 1931] Cambuslang
         Edward Mitchell [1920 - 2007] Cambuslang

Mary Nicholson (descends from one of the above?)

Robert Mitchell [1856 - 4 February 1934] dsp - his death at Dooen, Letterkenny, was registered by Bella Russell, from Dooen. He was a labourer. - death registered on 3 March 1934
(Bella Russell also registered the death of an Eliza Jane Russell [1866 - 20 February 1934], aet 68, from Dooen, a married woman, and wife of a labourer - on 28 February 1934).

I have been researching the McCurdy part of this family, in Donegal, and have some specific detail that may have relevance to your searching ... re Alexander Mitchell [1870-1956] and Margaret Frances McCurdy [1872-1960] ... she being a daughter of Thomas McCurdy [1830-1914] and Barbara Johnston [1834-1910] ... he was a son of Thomas McCurdy [1785-1875] and Mary Ann Sawyers [1787-1875]. Barbara was a daughter of Robert Johston and Martha Couborn.

Just wondering which of Alexander Mitchell and Margaret McCurdy's children you descend from?

Hoping to her from you

John - delighted to hear from you.
I'm in this genealogy lark for the long haul, so its always lovely to hear from some one / anyone, regardless of the time that has passed.
I have an interest in ALL McCurdy family connections, and the McCurdy of Lisnagungoue is one such connection of which you are a part. Maurice McCurdy, a good friend from many long years standing, had mentioned you, and I had put that message our to see if I had the right Ward (or john Ward)!
Delighted to make your acquaintance. I actually live near Moira, but have a wee place (my batchelor pad) still up at Portstewart. It would be great to get to meet up and exchange details! If you were interested I am sure Maurice would be very willing to meet as well, give the specific connection between your two families.
My McCurdys hail from Toberkeigh and Croagh ... although there is a suggestion that a Charles left Toberkeigh in the late 1700's or early 1800's and settled in Lisnagunogue ... hence Maurice and your connection could be a distant connection to me also!
My direct email is Removed. if you would be interested to see my musings on your connection, I would be very happy to share it with you! If you drop be a direct email, I can respond with an attachment :-)
Kind regards for the moment, and hope we get to meet in 2024.

John - I was speaking with Maurice McCurdy from Lisnagunogue, and he mentioned that he was distantly related to you .. I have traced back to a Martha McCurdy who was married to a James Glass, their children, of whom I know, were
Rose Glass [1836-1877] married Hugh Wenlock
James Glass married Rachel Ann McCormick, and later Margaret Ann Gran
William Glass [1841] married Catherine Gault, and later Jane ?
Margaret Glass [1850-1940] married ? Charles
Annie Jane Glass [1861] married Peter Gaelena

I am wondering if you descend from either James and Rachel Ann McCormick, or William and Catherine Gault?
I am seeking to build up a picture of all known descendants of individual McCurdy families, and have an extensive family genealogy already put together on Maurice's McCurdy family connection ...

Hoping that you might favour me with a reply
