Hello Curley,

yesterday I uploaded six clips to YouTube.  Subject;  Portadown Festival of Britain 1951 P6 of 6

You might be interested in viewing part six, at 1 minute 22 seconds you will see Burnetts shop, in the clip it shows the local fire-brigade demonstrating their skills from the roof of Burnetts shop!  It can be funny but not so funny if it had been a real fire.

The original Burnett building no longer exists, terrorist laid a bomb in the centre of town in the 70/80's causing terrible destruction, many of the buildings, including Burnetts, had to be demolished and rebuilt.

Here is a link to the YouTube video;

Cheers,

Just came across this thread tonight, it’s going back a bit but thought I’d put my ‘pennysworth’ in.

R. Clements Lyttle was the original photographer; he had a son whose first name I’ve forgotten.  This son took over the studio from his father and was President of the Professional Photographers Association of Northern Ireland in the late 1960’s or early 1970’s. he had a daughter called Julie who worked in the studio.

A photographer named Jim Moreland was a photographer with the studio during this period, he would know the complete history; his contact details are,
J.M. Photography

By coincidence my name is Lyttle, not any relative of the R. Clements Lyttle Studios.

Cheers,

Jim.

Armagh / Re: Emigration from Portadown N. Ireland to USA

I am researching emigration stories relating to  people who emigrated to USA from the Portadown area of Co. Armagh,c. 1880-1930. Many ended up in the Hartford area of Connecticut,Paterson NJ and the Springfield area MA.

Would be intersted in contacting anyone who has information/photos/letters relevant to above for possible book publication.

Dr J R Wright

Hello John,  I will get you a copy of an article published in the 'Portadown News' 1946.  It covers my grandfathers (Tom Weir) visit to Manchester CT and surrounding areas.  In the report many local names are mentioned and the streets in Portadown where they emigrated from in the early 1900's.

Cheers,

Jim.

hi,

i have heard of the hartford connection before, though cant remember where.
tony

Hello Tony,

For your enlightenment here is some info on Hartford.  See map below; you can see why it is part of ‘New England' by the names of Cities.

Hartford is the capital of the State of Connecticut. It is located in Hartford County on the Connecticut River, north of the center of the state, 24 miles south of Springfield, Massachusetts.

Cheers,

Jim.
