Thank you so very much Victoria, Alison and Mudge as well as Irene,  They are greatly improved.  Even little bub is standing out much clearer - thank you all so much.

This was taken the day before they immigrated from Middlesex to Australia, maybed that accounts for the unsure expressions on their faces ;D

Thanks again everyone!

Jo

Hi Victoria,

I am so sorry, despite all good intentions, the e-mail I sent had an in-place setting to make sure that files aren't too large.  Sorry.  Is it too late to send again?

Victoria,

Please excuse me, but I didn't receive notification of your response, I only received your first response that you sent and that the file was too big.

Pardon me!

Thank you for taking the time indeed!.

Hello everyone,

Is there any hope of restoring this photograph?  Someone has done a bit of "artwork" to the eyes of Ann Sarah Trinder and her children - bless them!

I have a slightly higher quality version if it is of any use, which I can send off list.

I love the expression on Emma Matilda's face (the little one in front, holding on for dear life).

It's not a good photo, I know, so any attempt to improve would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jo

Midlothian / Re: Blinkbonny, West Calder

Thank you Jessden,

Those maps are fantastic, there are so many names that are familiar to me from the census' that I could not locate.  ;D

Without your instructions on navigating to the correct page, I would have been lost I'm afraid, so many thanks for taking the time!

It may well be that the open countryside was attractive.  Perhaps if they moved from Mossend to Blinkbonny (or if she spent time with her Uncle and his family at Blinkbonny) it may have been pure bliss by comparison ::)

Once again, many thanks for taking the time to point me in the right direction.

Midlothian / Blinkbonny, West Calder
« on: Wednesday 05 November 08 06:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

My great grandmother immigrated to Australia 1892 from Scotland aged 8.  The family obviously held the name Blinkbonny close to their hearts, as my great grandmother named her house this, as did my grandfather who was born in Australia.  Obviously she had spoken fondly and often to him about Blinkbonnie.

In the 1871 census, the family is in Wishaw, and once again in 1881.  My great grandmother was born 1884 in Wishaw, though her fathers usual residence was West Calder at her birth.  A few years later, her sister was born Front Street, Mossend, West Calder.  I have found her uncle living in 1881 West Calder, residence Blinkbonny.  So can make a connection to the name through this.  My problem is that by googling Blinkbonny, I can see reference to a Blinkbonny Mine (the family were miners), but that doesn't jump out as being a fond memory, I can see Blinkbonny Gardens on google earth - is there anything else anyone knows related to this name to make a connection??

Was there miners cottages at Blinkbonny Mine perhaps, hence the uncles address??

Many thanks.

Norfolk / Re: SPINKS/Williamson/Williams confusion - help please!

Thanks to Tati's lead on the 1841 and 1851 census, and the repositioning of my tongue, I believe I have found Jane Williamson in the 1861 census ;D

Named as Sarah Williamson b. abt 1836 Tottenhill, living with her sister Elizabeth BARRETT at Middleton, which is also where William Spinks Williamson is born shortly after.  Other sister Mary (blind, deaf and dumb) is also living there.

Now to find where Henry Spinks' father is hiding 1861 :P

Hi Tati,

Many thanks for taking the time to look for me :D  Fresh, brighter eyes certainly make things clearer.

Thinking back,  I must have been focussed on looking for a Jane Williams in the earlier years.

I will now put the mother of all siblings as Jane Williamson.

I wonder why I cannot find the others as well on the 1861 census - I'll have another look, holding my tongue in a different position :P

Many thanks once again!

Jo
