Tyrone / Margaret Ferguson née Huggins, of Glenarb, parish of Aghaloo
« on: Saturday 19 December 15 10:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hello:
Our fifth great grandfather's sister, Margaret Huggins, was married c.1730 to David Ferguson, son of Andrew, of Farriter townland, parish of Killeeshil. Other than this, all we know is that their eldest son was John, and it appears that David died sometime before 1777. I've summarized what research findings I've gathered on my web page at http://www.arborealis.ca/resources/biographies/huggins/margaret-huggins-ferguson.html
If this family strikes anyone as familiar, please do get in touch.
Best regards,
Alison Kilpatrick

Hello:

I've just finished and posted a family history report, detailing three
generations of descendants from the marriage of John Joseph Huggins
(1816-1876), of Caledon, county Tyrone, and Margaret Jane Burke
(1823-1898), of Tralee, county Kerry.

Hoping that interested family historians might find this helpful, and
would welcome suggestions for inclusion, vignettes, photographs, etc.,
from relatives.

Hello, "tomk10":
Did you have any luck tracing your ancestors? My family has a connection, by marriage, to one of Charles' and Sarah's sons, Alfred Williams (1862-1922).
Regards,
Alison

Hello, Rex ... thank you for your work on this question.
When this man was pensioned out in 1838, he indicated his intention to stay in Chatham ... which intention seemed to speak of him having been there already for some time ... as borne out by what you've found.
Thanks again,
Alison

Patricia Downes has certainly done her homework, and her list of references give a lot to work from.
I will probably have to consult the muster rolls, or similar, to see where John Burke was stationed "at Home" whilst the regiments were off in New South Wales and India.
Thank you for this link.
Cheers,
Alison

Armed Forces / 39th Regiment of Foot - Depots, 1823-38
« on: Wednesday 01 February 12 13:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hello.
I am researching John Burke (1795-c1868), who was a tailor in the 39th Regiment of Foot. His service, from 1817-38, was entirely "at Home", i.e., he did not go off with detachments of the Regiment to New South Wales in the 1820s or to India afterwards.
I find this man in Tralee, county Kerry in 1823 (from a baptismal record), and until his discharge at Chatham in 1838 (from army lists published in an old Irish newspaper).
My question: what resources can I use to identify stations of the depot for the 39th for the period 1823-1838?
Many thanks, in advance, for any assistance or pointers offered.
Regards,
Alison Kilpatrick
