Well, isn't that just typical?!  ::)

Thank you for sharing the information - I'd never have known.

Thanks also to Alan for the announcement. I didn't have that, so it is useful to add.

Cumberland / Michael Woolaghan marriage - Whitehaven Dist. 1883
« on: Saturday 26 July 25 09:34 BST (UK)  »
Morning all,

I have a marriage of a Michael Woolaghan to Frances Hall in the district of Whitehaven.  The marriage took place in QJune 1883 (Volume 10b, Page 951).

I know I can get a certificate for this, but I was wondering whether anyone may have access to the records?  The family were living in Cleator, I believe.

Any help would be gratefully received - thank you!

Thank you for the reply.  They are an elusive family and I'm still trying to pinpoint them pre-Jonah, so I'm not yet sure what happened to his mother after he was born.

UPDATE (after a little while!)

I now know that Jonah Lister passed away in Hetton in 1939 and Mary passed away the year after.

Jonah was born on 12th November 1886 at 18 Success Row, Newbottle, to Elizabeth Helen Lister, domestic servant, daughter of Ralph Lister, a coal miner.

I am still having difficulty finding Jonah prior to 1911.  If anyone is able to help while I'm also searching, I'd really appreciate it.

Regards,
Emma

'The Diary of Robert Sharp of South Cave, Life in a Yorkshire Village, 1812-1837', edited by Crowther & Crowther, OUP 1997 ..... gives seven mentions of Matthew/Matty/Merchant Moody and one of his son Mails. --- but no baptism.

Thank you!  Some interesting snippets - just wish the book was easier to get hold of!

I have found a baptism for an Elizabeth Moody:

Elizabeth, daughter of Matthew Moody of Faxfleet in the parish of South Cave, December 7th 1755.

A sister, maybe?

Matthew Moody was my 5xGt Grandfather.

He was married to Ann Martin in South Cave on 23 March 1801.

He features on the 1841 census (HO107; Piece: 1217; Book: 10;  Folio: 20; Page: 33) where he is listed as age 82, a tailor in Market Place, South Cave. He is listed as being born in Yorkshire.

Matthew died in 1845 (1845 J Quarter in BEVERLEY Volume 23 Page 7) listed as age 87.

Please could someone see if they can find a baptism for Matthew?

Thank you so much for this information.  Certainly a lot of interesting details.

Is there any evidence of a connection of Richard to Elias Jarrett 1776-1838?

Thanks again,
Emma
