Hello there, Dennis. It is great to see you are still plugging away at the family details. This is Lynne McCarrick here from Runcorn, Cheshire, England. Forgive me stating the obvious but I am struggling to remember a few things so I'll state the obvious to be clear.
You kindly sent lots of information to my husband, David, several years ago. I need to let you know that my David sadly passed on (to meet our amazing ancestors, I'm sure!) in July 2012, so I haven't been doing much of this research for a while. However, I have just spent a couple of days dabbling and digging in the families that stem from Peter Dougherty, namely his daughters Bridget, Hannah, Elizabeth, Ellen and never-to-be-forgotten Jane, who grew to be my Dave's great grandmother. The one that kicked it all off again was Ellen, since her name seems to attract much of the heartache, sorrow and loss in Dave's family throughout the generations. So I'm back seeking what happened to her after her husband died when she wasn't far off delivering their daughter Mary Ellen, in 1872. I find her in a convent school and her mother disappears, apart from maybe working as a stewardess on The Arizona out of Liverpool for a few years, 1880 to 1882.
So I'm just touching base, letting you know that I do have lots of info, and lots still to find, but mostly how much I miss my amazing mate. He really is one of a kind, with KIND being the operative word. Best thing that ever happened in my life. So thanks for helping him with your info as you enriched his life. He ADORED finding his ancestors.
Take care, Dennis. x x LYNNE MCCARRICK

Hi Lynne

There is a newspaper article about the coroner's inquest on Jane's death in the Liverpool Mercury, May 27th 1889, however there is no mention of Bernard.  It's in the British Library newspaper archive, which you can access on line if you have a Lancashire library card (if you don't, I'll type it out for you, its not that long).

Superb, Barbara. I do not have said access, so can you please type it for me? Very grateful indeed.
Take care, and thanks in advance,
Lynne

I have death cert. of Jane McCarrick who burned in a house fire when her dresses caught light at the edge of her fireplace, Liverpool, Squires Street, 1889. She was 10 days in the workhouse hospital with burns to her front, and then died, leaving a large family. She died 23rd and was buried 25th May 1889. She was buried in a public grave at Ford Cemetery. I would love to find a burial service record for her, and perhaps a newspaper report of her accident at home.
Anyone any ideas which newspapers may exist that may have reported on this? Any new info would be wonderful.
Her 20 month old youngest child, Bernard, had been sat on her lap when she caught fire. She jumped up and he rolled across the floor away from her. This child became my husband's grandfather, so it would mean a great deal for us to find out more.
Thanks in advance, Lynne

Hi, Janine. Lucky you living in Dudley, where the clue to our family breakthrough is held!! We've visited Dudley several years ago and found some records that helped us, but were unable to find my husbands's G G Grandfather's baptism. His siblings' baptism records, even death records(as children), are there, but not his baptism. I wonder if I could be cheeky enough to ask you to check behind us next time you're over there? When we visited, we were well organised, even booked to stay overnight to give us plenty of time to search, but in the end the office was closing just as we realised we needed to search again.
If it's too much, I quite understand, but I am unable, due to health issues, to travel as I used to and this would help me so much if you can.
Just let me know if its possible and I'll post some details for you here. The Surname is McCarrick, so it's not a Smith/Jones kind of challenge. Here's hoping!! I've got everything crossed ....hope I don't fall over!!!! Best regards, Lynne McCarrick

According to www.lawsons/ca, my relative
Lilian Emma PECKHAM Married John James CRETNEY on 15 Sept 1888
/ on I.O.M.
(I have the correct lady, backed up by scources on her age & birthplace, Hants)
I then find no further sign of this John James CRETNEY with her.

BUT I find Lilian Emma bears to Peter Hastie(on gravestone, & saying she's his wife) DODDS at least five children (names important - William Joseph DODDS, George Peckham DODDS, Margaret Lilian DODDS, John Henry DODDS & Alice DODDS). 3 of these children are buried with these parents in 695 & 696 of Lezayre cemetery.
BUT< BIG> BUT .....Peter DODDS mar. Mary KIM on 26 Dec 1888 and worse still,
I find that 5 other children are registered to John James CRETNEY & Mary KIM/LEADBETTER, in 1889, 1891, 1893, 1894,  &1897!!
And to COMPOUND THE AGONY AND CONFUSION, I see
Peter DODDS mar. Mary KIM !!!(look carefully) 26 Dec 1888.
Is it possible that there are errors on the site?
SUMMARY:
Peter DODDS marries Mary KIM Dec 1888
John James CRETNEY marries Lilian Emma PECKHAM Sept 1888

Peter DODDS & Lilian Emma Peckham have evidence of family activity.
John James CRETNEY & Mary KIM/LEADBETTER have evidence of family activity.

AND none of these show up in that last column of POSSIBLE spouses, whatever that might mean!

Just for a moment this makes me wish I were dead, just for a moment, so I could check it out with them in person.
Can anyone out there clear up this for me?
Best regards, I wait anxiously.... Thanks in advance,
Lynne Georgina

Know any simpler ways to search for Sligo christenings than the hit and miss arrangements of odds on IGI or individual sites?

Thanks anyway, Christopher.
