Suffolk Lookup Requests / Re: CUNDY Birth
« on: Sunday 26 January 14 11:40 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you Annette and Trevor for your replies, appreciated.

I have just printed off the report in the Essex Standard and Colchester and County Advertiser and note the crime was committed in the Parish of St Botolph and wondered if in fact it was this Parish or a bordering Parish that Robert CUNDY was born and not necessarily to a George and Sarah, in about 1813.
Because of the newspaper report maybe even a birth of a Robert HUNNEX the name he gave at his trial.
In answer to your question Annette, the names of George CUNDY and Sarah HAGAR were quoted in an article from Ancestry.com

Thanks again Annette and Trevor for replying.

Suffolk Lookup Requests / CUNDY Birth
« on: Saturday 25 January 14 10:56 GMT (UK)  »
G'day Chatters,
I am hoping someone can help me please.
I am seeking the birth of one Robert CUNDY sometime between 1813 and 1818. His parents are believed to be George and Sarah. Unfortunately I have no idea what Parish this event was in.
He was convicted in 1831 at the Colchester Essex Quarter Sessions for house breaking and transported to Australia aboard the vessel Lady Harewood.
Many thanks in advance.

The birth I now believe may have been in Ipswich.

G'day Chatters,

Further to my previous message, I have located the Fiche numbers relating to Conditional Purchase Registers 1862 to 1911.

They are 5278-5286, 5308-5316 and 5941-5954.

I am hoping someone may have access to these Fiche and be able to assist me please.

Australia / Conditional Land Purchases
« on: Wednesday 24 October 12 10:56 BST (UK)  »
G'day Chatters,

Several years ago I viewed fische firstly at Cootamundra Library and the later at Newcastle Regional Library which listed the names of people having purchased land under the 1862 Conditional Purchase Act. In this manner I was able to locate land an ancestor bought initially. These fische allowed me to see the change of hands of this property.
My question is a request as to if any chatters have access to this information these days please.

Thanks again JM for your response.

I have all the information on Thomas in relation to his arrival with his 1st wife a daughter Emma. Also Thomas' listing in the Mercury re his wife's desertion and the subsequent reward posted by William DANGAR for £5 for Thomas' absconding from his employment from Turanville, Scone in 1854.

The TOWELLS at Long and Clarkes Creeks were Thomas' two eldest sons and I in fact have visited the property these boys had.

As an aside tour subject, John and Fredericks property were next door to each other. One fronted Long Creek and the other fronted Clarke's Creek. The two brothers built a cottage on the boundary of these properties and had a post and rail fence which came up to the front of the cottage and then out the back continued on to far end of both properties. Weird couple apparently. Probably accounts for me :P

The son's properties were closer to Windeyer and according to the Parish Maps I have seen the father's property was further afield although roughly JUST over Campbell's Creek from the two boys.

I will follow up on the other information that you sent me, particularly that in 1861.2 and 4.

Thanks again

Thank you JM for your response.
Thanks also for the information you have sent on the possible sites to look at. I will give them a go.
In the case of the Parish Map the first one I could find with any information was the 1885 one.
My Great Grandfather was in the area from about 1862 as it was here that he sent a letter back to England saying he was going to settle down. He was married in 1864 and was obviously on a selection of some kind. Is there a way of defining "that" selection please , to your knowledge?
Thanks again for your response

Australia / Land Ownership Changes
« on: Sunday 07 October 12 11:31 BST (UK)  »
G'day Chatters,
Please forgive me if this has been duplicated as I tried earlier to post it.
I am seeking assistance please in following the change of ownership of a 10 acre block of land on Campbell's Creek aka Guigong Creek, out from Windeyer NSW. It was initially owned by Thomas TOWELLS, my great grandfather.
This block (Lot 106) has been indicated on the Parish maps of 1885, 1896, 1906, 1910, 1919, 1926 and 1969 for the Parish Warratra, County of Wellington Mudgee Land District,
The maps of 1885 and 1896 had my rellies name on the block. The maps of 1906, 1910 and 1919 did not. In 1926 and 1969 the Lot No was altered to 260 although on the 1969 an arrow indicated also a Lot No of 106. My rellies name was not on either of these two maps.
My Great Grandfather died in 1908.
I was hoping to follow the change of ownership and find the exact location as it is today.
Any assistance and guidance I can get will be greatly appreciated.

Australia / Land Ownership Changes
« on: Sunday 07 October 12 10:12 BST (UK)  »
G'day Chatters,
Can anyone advise me please of how I can chase down the various ownerships of a certain block of land and to whose name it changed.
What I currently have is taken from the Parish Map of 1885 for Warratra in the County of Wellington, Mudgee Land District of a 10 acre block, Lot 106, in the name of my g grandfather T (Thomas) TOWELLS.
The 1896 Parish Map has the same listing.
However the maps of 1906, 1910 and 1919 have the block marked out but without a name. (G grandfather Thomas TOWELLS died in 1908).
The 1926 map has the block set out but with the variation in the Lot No which is indicated as 260. It is abutted with a 194 acre block in the name of O D COC.
The 1969 map also has the block as 260 but with an arrow at the bottom and the number 106 shown.
The block in question is on Campbell's Creek, upstream from Windeyer.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
