Clare / Canny/Wood
« on: Friday 04 January 13 07:31 GMT (UK)  »
Dear list,

I am searching for information on an Eliza Canny from Ennis, Co.Clare who married a Lambert Wood on approximately 22/11/1827 in Ennis.
I would love to be able to confirm this date of marriage and a date of birth for Eliza.
Any other information about the family would be gratefully received.
With regards,
Joanne.

Hi All,

For your information Richard Hand Wood and Elizabeth Tackaberry (Putz) Wood had 6 children. 3 boys, 3 girls. I am missing what became of their last son William Noble Wood, who I believe went to Canada. Any info. here gratefully received.
Elizabeth in her first marriage to Robert Putz had a daughter Helena, born c1865 in Dusseldorf, Staat Rheinland, Prussia to Robert Puetz and Elizabeth Takaberg.
Family Search, Germany Births and Baptisms 1558- 1898
Take note of spelling of Puetz and Tackaberg -a transcription error I would guess.

But the dates etc correspond with 1901 England Census which says Helena was born Germany, but a naturalised British Subject.
She died on 19/03/1954 at Bex-hill on Sea, Sussex, England. She was a nurse.
Hope this helps,
Joanne.

Hi Wally,
I think Richard Hand Wood was even more special, as when his brother George and sister-in-law died quite young in Belfast  he became  custodian of their young children for a time, in Sligo, before some of them went to Australia.

Sometimes in the baptism certificates I have from Ireland, I have found there is no middle name entered in the registers, but this seems to be something that is added by the parents or children later. I am not sure if it is the same for the Methodist Registers.
Best Wishes,
Joanne.

Thank you both Graham and Harry for your reply.

I would dearly love to know where this regiment was recruited from, but shall try Kew. I thought there should be something in Scotland.
With regards,
Joanne.

Hi Wally,
The probate record for our Helena shows she was a spinster. Did you have that?
I just googled Methodist baptisms in Ireland and came up with "Your Irish Ancestry search for Methodists" - Irish Genealogy toolkit. It has some interesting information on this site. PRONI do carry some records but they may be in other Church registers also. Who were you wanting to look for?

Regards,
Joanne.

Dear Wally,
I have been having a little look at ancestry and family search and found the 1891 England Census for Helena Putz, Head Nurse , born in Dusseldorf, aged 28, at Royal Alexandra Hospital for sick Children at Brighton, Sussex.

the 1901England census says she was Matron at Junction Road Cottage hospital, Andover, UK and a Naturalised British Subject. aged 36 so making her born c1865.
I then found in Family Search but unfortunately no date
Helena Puetz born to Robert Puetz and Elisabeth Takaberg, born Duesseldorf, Staat Rheinland,Prussia.
Index C98808-2, System Germany ODM, Source 937469. Germany Births and Baptisms 1558 -1898
So this is Helena. I also found her record in the National Probate Calendar.
I can't seem to find anything on Robert except for his marriage to Elizabeth Tackaberry.
Sorry if you already had this.
Best wishes,
Joanne. (In the wet UK)

Hi Wally,
How are you connected?
I think Helena was one of Elizabeth (Tackaberry) Wood's sisters who may have lived in London. I must admit I have not checked out the Tackaberry family really.
Richard Hand Wood did marry Rebecca Anderson Nee?? in 1834 (Rebecaa had been married before to a Mr.Anderson C1821 and had a daughter Catherine born C1822) Catherine was living with Richard and Rebecca in the 1841 Irish Census (which I got from the Crossle papers) as aged 19, unmarried and stepdaughter. They didn't have any children of their own.

I thought I had read somewhere about Fossey T going to America, but am not sure where and I din't take that much notice at the time.

Lambert does come up quite frequently in the Wood family -I have 2 as a first name and a couple as middle names with the lot who went to Australia.
With regards,
Joanne.

Fife / 71st Regiment of Foot Scotland
« on: Saturday 20 October 12 08:58 BST (UK)  »
Dear All,
My 4th G Grandfather John Dibbs was a soldier in the 71st Regiment of Foot, of College Kirk Parish when he married Elizabeth Simpson of North Kirk Parish in Edinburgh in Jan 1783. This regiment was disbanded in 1783.
His first child was born in Dec 1783 in Dundee, following which he moved to St.Leonards and St.Andrews.
I have not been able to find a birth for him in Scotland, and the 1841 Scotland Census says he was English.
Can anyone tell me where the regiment might have been formed and where I could find information on it. I am coming to Edinburgh shortly and wanted to have things mapped out where I should go before I arrive.
Where is College Kirk Parish and where is North Kirk Parish?
To search for records e.g.. land records of St.Andrews, Militia information, does one go to the national records of Scotland or to Scotlands People Centre.
Any help greatly appreciated, With thanks,
Joanne.

Dear Wally,
Thanks for the reply. Actually via the grapevine I have known you are a Tackaberry Wood researcher.I do have the 6 children of Richard and Elizabeth, but I didn't know that Elizabeth had a child from her previous marriage to Robert Putz. Where did you find that? And have you proven that her marriage to Robert was in Minnesota. Was Fossey Tackaberry working there at the time as that particular marriage record says that Elizabeth was born there also. I have not been able to find a birth for her in Ireland so maybe this is so? What happened to the child?
I have all the children of George Wood and Mary Hand (Richard's parents- haven't been able to find his birth except that it was in Skreen) and have their marriage in Dublin, but haven't been able to go back further than that. Do you have anything going further back?
With regards,
Joanne.
