I have a John Casemore, born in Aston Clinton in 1794, who later became a sawyer in Salcey Forest near Hartwell, Northants. Can anyone else tie into him, please?

If they're the same Max family, I have the will of family members back to those born 1666.

See https://www.dropbox.com/s/ib9ptkmzkhjtapx/max%20wills.pdf?dl=0

This is the family of Mary Max, the heiress who was kidnapped in 1775. Very few RC Maxes that far back though I have seen an RC Anastasia Max.

Hi Peter and Daniel

I am interested in your Rhodes family member. Do you know where she was born? I ask because I have a stonemason James Rhodes in Potternewton, Leeds, b1816 in Wigan, Lancs. I cannot find any trace of his birth, although he was over in Yorkshire by his early 20s.

Regards,

Will

A long delay from your original post but I have information on a Baker family from Wellow c mid 1700s to mid 1800s. I'll keep this short until I know the chat is still live.

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Anglesey, Newborough, N.Wales - Roberts
« on: Friday 15 November 13 17:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Jeff - it looks as though we're descended from the same Robertses, although my great grandmother Margaret, daughter of John and Ellen, stayed in Anglesey. My cousin and I have the family back one or two more generations, and we have a picture of Margaret and a snap of the grave of the grandmother of John Roberts b1832 - she was C Jones, b1750 who lived to the age of 99. We can't get back further than this because of the Welsh family surnaming convention. Drop me an email to william at bramhill dot net for more.

Another view of Touch and Take with the maps showing its location in Edwardian times and its location in relation to the current road network.

My dad lived in Touch and Take during the first world war. I only found out where it was after he died. He had always wondered about the exact location, but knew it was near Rawtenstall. Ironically he probably drove several times over the A56/A680 roundabout that is now on the site. I can supply maps if you like.

Apparently the building was a group of weavers' cottages built in 1600s or 1700s and it got its name from a shop run by an old woman over several years. Her chant was: "If you touch it, you'll take it" - sound advice for food.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: WHITE/KIRK marriage

Hi - I believe these Whites are my wife's side of the family. Like you, I came across the problem of the two Georges. My wife's gt grandmother was Kate Maud White (b Tickhill 1895 and m Isaac Elvidge b 1882 Freiston, Lincs). Her father was Thomas b1853 and her mother was Emily b 1854. Thomas's parents were George and Charlotte (both b1818 - I think I took the dates from the 1861 census); George's parents were Samuel 1777-1866 and Ann White, and Samuel's father was John White.
